I just joined this list and am seeking information on an orphanage in
Marysville,Yuba County,CA in the years 1850-70. My husband's great
grandmother,Mary Ellen Kimball, b. MO 1851, was said to have become an orphan
on the trip West, making it around 1853, and to have lived in an orphanage.
She married George Haven some time before 1874 and died in 1925 in Nevada
City,CA.
Is anyone out there who knows where old records are kept for Gallipolis
Children's Home? I have a grandfather who was placed there when he was
about 2 yrs old, along with 4 or 5 siblings, in the 1880's. I'm trying
to find out who his parents were and what happened to them.
Grandfather's name was Charles M. Kelly; sisters Jennie and Rebecca,
brothers George, Robert, David, Silas. Charles was born in St. Mary's,
WVA. Something happened to the father, the mother took children down the
Ohio River to Gallipolis
Does anyone know the name of the orphange which used to be in Alameda, now
no longer in use, a derelict building, but where are the archives, and all
the records gone?
