2. [ORPOLK] CLARENCE AND PEARL MOORE TRUITT [1]
I am interested in finding out more about Pearl Vera Moore Truitt, who was married to Clarence Earl Truitt. All I know is she was born on 09-April-1904 in Buena Vista, Polk, Oregon, to Charles Franklin and Jessie Daisy Layfield Moore. Clarence and Pearl were married 16-September-1920 in Benton County, Oregon. Pearl died in Albany, Linn, Oregon. I know that Clarence and Pearl had several children including one named Arletha. That is all I know but would like to find out more, especially when Clarence and

The Smith Cemetery was moved at some time along with a few others to FIRCREST aka: Monmouth Cemetery. http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eorpolk/FirCrest.html You might ask the Farnstrom Mortuary in Monmouth to ask if they have any records on her or her family and ask for details or a copy of their records. Sometimes they have a copy of the obit in older files or at least death and interment dates. They may be able to tell you the name of the company that made the headstone. I'm afraid I don't know

SHIRLEY, I'm glad you had such success in finding family documents. May I suggest if you want to share them to put this information at Rootsweb under the appropriate headings (pull-down list)... then if people want to contact you there will be a permanent link there. Very helpful. Good Morning, I would like to get copies of early land records for Polk County. Is the county courthouse the only source for them or can they be found in other locations. I've lived in Salem for a few years after leaving eastern Oregon and would like to make copies of certain areas around Dalles - primarily the rural properties. Thank You, George Gildersleeve Researching: Gilliam, Bowman, Gildersleeve, etc

Hello Dan, I have hard copy of "Index to the Cemetery Books of Polk County, Oregon" by Shirley H. O'Neil, 2002. This index is an alphabetical listing of people buried in Polk County. After each person's name is the name of the cemetery he/she is buried in. About 50 cemeteries, including Smith, are included in the index. However, the index lists no one with the surname Rowe. Might Julia have been buried under another surname? If so, I would be happy to look in the index again. Kathleen ----- Origin

The Oregon State Library in Salem has an extensive collection of records that were donated by the Willamette Valley Genealogical Society and WVGS volunteers staff the genealogy reading room on a regular basis. You might start there. If they don't have what you need, they may be able to refer you to a better source. Also the State Archives are just a couple blocks away. She is listed as a carpet maker living at home 1900 census living in Monmouth. I was told she might be buried at Smith cemetery . But on a net search of transcriptions I cant find that cemetery as transcribed any place. So my question is this, * does any one have any idea if she is there ?* Also What is on the stone, even maybe a picture from some one local ? I can go there, its just about 1 hour from here, but my car is in the shop with a smoking motor. I checked all the sites even this one. ht

Dan, I've checked Ancestry.com for you, as well, and she is not found on the 1900 Census you mentioned. Perhaps she used a different surname or was Julia, not Julie A? I tried looking at several searches and although were several Rowe family members listed, she was not. Perhaps you could provide extra clues like her birthdate, birthplace, parents names, siblings, other residences earlier than 1900? I could not find her in Oregon Death Index or Marriage Index either. You probably know tha

Dear Shirley, I would begin by ordering birth and marriage records and death from the State as you may find new clues. ie: Sometimes "marriage certificates with the application" will provide witnesses, etc. Also it would be good to know what other sources have you already checked so that we don't duplicate your efforts. I'd be interested in the Mulkey information: Netta Spencer death certificate, Wm. J. Mulkeydeath certificate, and James Theodore Mulkey death certificate. I am just beginning and I have not checked any where. What I have written is what I got from Ancestry.Com and from some census info. I am actually researching The Fink Family who lived and are buried in Benton County. My son-in-law's mother was Karen Marie Fink Goodell. Her parents were Stanley Charles and Edith Jessie Moore Fink. Edith and Pearl were sisters. This is where it gets confusing, After Edith passed away, Pearl's daughter married Stanley. I am hoping to find out more info about the Truitt

Thanks for all of your help. I did find the Donation Land Claims at the State Library and they were a great help. I made large copies of those that had the names of relatives and I'm locating them on a Polk County map and will be taking a day to visit the locations for a photo session. I have some personal diaries of the experiences from mid 1840's on and am going to try to get a feel of the times.
