2. Hannah Speakman/ ? Hoopes/ Ellis Jones [1]
Correction: Okay folks, it is HANNAH SPEAKMAN I seek. She was born 1745 in Goshen, Chester Co.. and married a HOOPES in 1764, with their first child, Elisha Hoopes, being born the following year in 1765. Either before or after marriage to Mr Hoopes, Hannah married ELLIS JONES, who was born in Wales. He may have been married previously in Wales and had children there. Not certain this is true. The mention on this list that there was a Welch portion of Chester County, renewed my determination
3. Re: [PaOldC] Charles Carlson Painting [1]
Rita, The Brooklyn artist sounds like the likelier candidate. My great-grandfather bought the homestead from his great-uncle's estate in 1894 so he is probably the person who commissioned the painting. He died in 1928 so that roughly leaves a 30 year window. Thanks for the help. Can anyone narrow it down? John > For John: I have a 1989 "Davenport's Art Reference & Price Guide" that > lists two Charles Carlsons: > > The first one was born in 1866 (no death date listed) and he was from > Brooklyn
4. Hinshaw's records not all on CDs [1]
http://www.genealogical.com/item_detail.asp?afid=&ID=2732 contains the second Volume http://www.genealogical.com/item_detail.asp?ID=7192 Contains all of Hinshaw's Volumes But, be prepared to still be disappointed. Not all records are there. I have found that there were early records of the MM for Chester and areas that had been part of Chester that Hinshaw did not know were in existence so are not included in his works. You can only find the information at the libraries of Swartmore education and Hav
5. RE: Jacob HIGH, d 1812 E Nantmeal [1]
Yes, the papers of Jacob HIGH d 1812 is where I found the connection to Henry LANDIS! Just got them in the mail today! I already had accounting papers for his estate prepared by Henry LANDIS and widow Elizabeth. But the request for valuation of his E Nantmeal land is the one that put it all together! It was in a separate file in the Chester Co Archives and not in his estate file! Go figure! The Oley HIGH/HOCHs were of a diff line! Melchoir's line came to Chester Co. His brother Rudolph HIGH/H
6. LDs [1]
The LDS has an incredible number of filmed documents...probably numbers in the hundreds of thousands.......and, the ones kept in each local FHC are, generally speaking, ones that pertain to that particular area. The chances of there being the things you wish to see at your local FTC are pretty slim. I, personally, have NO interest in films concerning the area where I live, and the FHC here. So, everything I wish to see must be ordered. This is the way it is for most of us. After all, if we're
7. Chester PA Edwards, Toomes and Wilcox [1]
Hi, I am researching Sarah Jane Toomes born 1835 in Chester, PA daughter of William Toomes and Margaret Wilcox also born in Pennsylvania. Sarah married Elmer Edwards of Delaware county (date of birth 4/29/1829) on August 17, 1857. Elmer served with The Delaware County Fusileers in the Civil War. Sarah and Elmer lived in Chester, Pa until her death during childbirth. This is the family of James & Sarah Waite MARSHALL. Moses is listed as an M.D. and d 1 Oct 1813 - married to Alice PENNOCK, daughter of Nathaniel & Sarah Bourne PENNOCK. The family is referenced in "The Pennocks of Primitive Hall." I show Lydia LAMBORN to be the daughter of Robert & Ann Bourne LAMBORN with her birth recorded at Kennett Sq. M.M., Chester, PA. Could I please know the marriage info. for Lydia & Moses Marshall? I have only information from another researcher, but he shows Lydia married to

13. Toomes [1]
A fellow list member has written that she has an ancestor with the surname TOMB, sometimes found as TOMS.....and, she feels that this may well be an alternative spelling for Toomes. It's a good idea and one the Toomes research should keep in mind when checking those book indices. Sandra -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. 17. Francis Armstrong [1]
Hello listers I'm a new list member trying to find information on a Francis ARMSTRONG (my 4th ggf) that shows up on the Digby Muster Rolls of 1784. Digby is in Nova Scotia. I have reason to believe that Francis originated from Sudsbury and fled Pennsylvania at the close of the Revolutionary War. I believe he was born around 1750. The Digby Rolls were a combination military/civilian list. I believe Francis to be a civilian. I am trying to determine if Francis was married in Pennsylvania to a Mary (or

19. Hinshaw book - Maddock [1]
If anyone has access to Hinshaw's Enclyclopdia of American Quaker Genealogy, I'd be grateful if you could see if there any Chester County entries for Maddock. I've been trying to trace whether there's a relationship to the Henry Maddock who bought land in Chester County from William Penn in 1681 and my ancestors William Maddock (born about 1800) and his son Henry Maddock (born 1826). Thanks! Linda Shepherd Seattle
20. Jacob HIGH, d 1812 E Nantmeal [1]
Well folks, I finally got the proof that HENRY LANDIS was married to Maria/Mary HIGH, dau of Jacob and Elizabeth HIGH, E Nantmeal. I had found Henry and Mary buried in East Earl, near Caernarvon in Lanc. Co in the Zimmerman Cemetery in a row of HIGHs in July! And it seems that her brother John HIGH, 1769-1823 is also buried there with his wife Elizabeth (1765-1855) since they are 2 stones away from Mary LANDIS, wife of Henrich LANDIS. Just received this today: Petition filed in Orphan's Court 5/18

Unfortunately, most of my own resources cover earlier dates than what you seek. However, there is nothing on the name Isaac Dickinson in THE HISTORY OF CHESTER COUNTY PA,by F&C, which was published in 1881. On a CD of PA census, I found several Isaac Dickinson; Sadsbury twp....1850 West Pikeland, Chester Co 1857 Valley,Chester Co 1857 Unfortunately, this durn CD doesn't give family members...you must search each family name. I looked on the 1870 Census, for both Isaac and John.... ( I did
23. Re: [PaOldC] Re: the 3 elements of a query [1]
People read these list posts quickly and really don't retain anything much that doesn't pertain to their own families.....thus, they won't remember something from a day or so ago that wasn't important to their own research. So, it is really important to always include some sort of dates whenever we post. There are lots of folks on this list that willingly look in their own resources to help others, but they need dates to go on......and, I doubt that they'll remember something posted days earlier, l
