Janet,
I just checked and found that the search site picked up on the eminent part
of the eminent domain bringing up a result from 2005. Apparently eminent
domain has never been brought up before.

The book Row House Blues is now available at www.bbotw.com

Row House Blues is the sequel to Row House Days, published in 2005.
These books describe life circa 1955-1970 in the neighborhood that
surrounds Mount Moriah Cemetery. The author played in Mt. Moriah as a
child, and several of his family members are buried there. Some scenes
from these books are set in Mt. Moriah and Cobbs Creek Park. One story

What about trying to tap into someone with existing credibility with Philly
pols? Any ancestors of well-placed current Philadelphians that might be
contacted to assist the effort?
Thanks for the encouragement. I'll check out the sites. I wonder if there are reasons that opening the question again may be digging up bones that shouldn't be dug up. As I mentioned earlier, I am unfamiliar with the controversy.

There are Moslems buried in many Philadelphia cemteries. Also Buddhists,
Atheists, Shintoists, Pagans, Protestants and Catholics, etc.
So what?
They have to be buried somewhere.

Okay everyone,
Calming down would be good right about now (and you know who you are). Try
to remember that there are live people with real feelings on the other side
reading what you are sending out. I think that we are all getting a little
frustrated by all the inaction.
SOMEONE needs to be in charge, or a coordinator; whatever.
Is ANYONE willing to take on this position?
I think this really needs to be someone in Philadelphia, in case any

OK thanks. I will cobble something up and send it to the list for comments.

Ive just recently joined the mailing list & have been reading the emails
that have been posted.
I too have ancestors who are buried there & as I live in Australia its a
bit hard to get information as to what plot numbers they are buried in, let
alone photos of their headstones (if they even have a headstone?)
I joined this list mainly to see if there was anyone else who had the same
family names that I do, however, Im reading slinging matches between people
on a daily basis & that saddens me greatly.
If you can get a few dozen plot owners interested, perhaps there would
be grounds for a class action.

The 'Friends of Greenwood' still exists and functions. It would help if prior members and people interested would stay in touch and attend meetings or stop by on a Sat. when I'm there. There is some work getting done and as they say it isn't over till it's over.

Hi, Janet et al. --
Andy Waskie was an early Mt. Moriah advocate and activist. He is heavily involved in Civil War-related projects and I recall that he became aware of Mt. Moriah some years ago because of the Civil War burial sites there. I don't recognize as Andy's the email address you mention. Around the time that we went to work on the documentary, Andy decided to focus his energies on activities other than Mt. Moriah.
The others who worked on the film include John Ellingsworth, who tirel
What does Richard Nixon's religion (or anything else about him) have to do
with MM Cemetery?
Genealogical and Historical ResearchIt brings to mind the common assumption
the Richard Nixon was a Quaker, fostered by carefully constructed sentences
like those found in his eulogies, the like of ..."his Quaker nurturence." No
mention is ever made of the attempt to have him expelled from Meeting. Or the

Sorry again for being inappropriate. The ability to think outside the box comes with wrapped in verbal inappropriateness. Im just angry and frustrated. As for the Nixon remark, it came out of my private reflection of how to use what I had learned in Rhetoric and Criticism. The remark is without merit otherwise. I was just taking stabs in the dark and looking for an angle. The only other excuse I can offer is the traumatic burial of a brother many years ago on Christmas Eve at MM. In general, I am overwroug
First of all, it's "Muslims," not "Moslems." Second, there's no "suspicion" about it: the Muslim gravesites are visible, dignified, simple and numerous at Mt. Moriah. Third, why on earth would anyone with common sense care whether or not Muslims or anyone else is being buried at Mt. Moriah? Sheesh.

I was looking at the MM website today and came upon this, I had totally forgotten about this;
Sadly, even though Mount Moriah Cemetery is a National Historic Landmark and is on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places, its fate is still in limbo. Mount Moriah Cemetery was placed on Preservation Pennsylvania's Most Endangered Historic Properties List in 2004 and on The Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia's Endangered Properties List in 2005.
why can't we contact these two groups and perhaps

We now know the City Council Representative for MM: Anna Verna, President of

To start the ball rolling, I suggest that someone, a Philadelphia resident,
preferably from that district, write a letter to Verna describing the
situation and what the people think needs to be done and/or find someone
from the district to visit her office in the district.
Similarly, the same should be done with whatever politician in Delaware
