Ray,
Here's a way to find maps of Mount Moriah Cemetery. Go to: www.mountmoriahcemetery.org; click on Main Menu, go down to Images, click on Album: Maps. There are many iamges, but on the first page of these images you should be able to find the drawn map of the cemetery, with the numbers of the sections printed on it.
Hope this helps,
Sue F.

Hi Ray,
While you're whacking the overgrowth in section 126, would you do me a favor and look over the road, in a northwesterly direction and see what the conditions are like in that section - 122? My relatives "Irvine" are buried there and as far back as the nineteen sixties, we couldn't find our families headstones.
When you get that far up into the cemetery are you able to drive your car or do you have to get out in the lower section and walk?
It's a good idea to get out there and clear the land b
I took a trip out on Saturday morning 3/14/09 to Section 126. The good news
is the section was nearly completely cleared of overgrowth and was
completely walkable and accessible. Though I was unfortunately unable to
find a remaining stone for my own ancestors I did photograph every stone
that was readable/visible. There are a number that were tipped and I was
unable to lift. Just because it is clear does not mean it is a pretty site.
The road between 126 and 124 is impassable due to someone dumping trash an
The folks who were buried at Franklin Cemetery in Kensington (I believe) wound up there, too.
Lafayette uprooted in 1946 and they didn't find out that the bodies had been dumped in a trench until 1988.
As much as I love old cemeteries, I have left explicit instructions that I wish to be cremated.

Hi Betsy (and anyone else interested)
The information asked for is to ascertain who & why an individual wants
to register. The system does not allow people to sign up and post
without approval, so the purpose of the fields is to limit malicious
users from signing up.
At this point in time, I am the only person doing this :( so I am the

history, only a brief bit of information about you and your interest in
the cemetery.
Hope this

Did you really take pictures of Section 204?? I have 4 family graves there all in a row.? They were all like stones They were all?a tablet style with curved over top.? The names were Dannenhauer and Exley.? I was there in the early 1980s.? Would really like to know if they still exist.? I have photos from then, but needless to say cameras weren't as efficient as they are now.?

Hi Elizabeth
Thanks for your interest in sharing information about persons interred
in Mount Moriah cemetery.
To facilitate the distribution of knowledge about the cemetery, I have
started a Mount Moriah Encyclopedia, here:
http://wiki.mountmoriahcemetery.org/index.php?title=Main_Page
It is a serious work in progress, meaning that I am making most of my
contributions to the history of the cemetery through it; it also means
there are many opportunities for it to be improved through the

Nothing seems to change everything.

This is a long distance for me, but I willing to try to visit. Lee, good luck with the office--not sure how helpful they'll be. I wonder, do you think the newspapers might be interested in these photos? That may be more effective than the cemetery office.
And that is exactly why I said the media might be interested. If nothing else, it keeps the story alive, and who knows--maybe someone with the money or the ability to raise it will see it and respond, leading to improvement. I'm not counting on it, times are hard, IMO government is not the answer to this problem, but the worse thing that comes of passing the photos on to the media is that they don't print them.

Ray and All,
This is just my opinion.? I have been to Mount Moriah many times.? I have found that if you go about this time of the year, or, lets say, on a good weather day (not after a rainy day) ?in the next few weeks, you will find that the weeds haven't started growing yet, and the ones that are there from last year are dead and much easier to handle.? I am now taking photos of a cemetery here in Bensalem, PA and found that the weeds haven't started to grow yet and it's easier to cut back the growth fr
To add to the recent posts:
There are two sections of fence along one side of the cemetery on the Philadelphia side - along Chester Ave and along Kingsessing Ave. Sections of the fences have been removed, probably to be sold as scrap. There is a stone and stucco wall along Cemetery Ave, which is in poor condition, but is intact.
Most of the cemetery - both sides - has no fence and there are no gates. Cobbs Creek is a natural border on the Yeadon side and could serve as a fence, but without gates, a
You could try the cemetery office. There is a sign on the door with a phone number, saying that they are available by appointment only.
They may be able to help. Other people have gotten varying degrees of cooperation.

There used to be a fence but it was either torn down by hoodlums or has
degenerated into a state of disrepair.

How about the Patuxent Naval Air Station down here in southern Maryland. During World War II, the navy pilots had to drive in through the main gate, which was built right next to St. Nicholas Church. The Navy decided that it was hurting the pilots morale, so they laid every stone flat and plowed them under three feet of soil so they wouldn't have to look at the grave stones when they drove onto the base each day.
