Well, I met up with John, Mary and (sorry I forget the names of the other two
ladies who were there)
I got there late (at 9:30) got lost on the way there, was in the wrong lane
off of I-95. But I did make it.
Believe it or not, I couldn't find many of the stones asked for. Will go
betther equiped next time. Left the list with John and then headed over to the
Yeadon side. Someone asked for stones in that section but as was the section
Mary's stones were in, very overgrown. Looks like next time
I will be at the Kingsessing gate at 9:00 AM. I will be taking pictures
so you will know who I am. After that I will be wandering around taking
pictures, seeing how things are overall.

Greetings Mt. Moriah Cemetery - L,
Currently the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia is gathering
information about Mt. Moriah Cemetery for our 2005 Endangered Places List.
If you have any information about the current conditions (in both
Philadelphia and Delaware Counties) and property management associated with
the site, we would be pleased to have your insight, as very little
information seems to be available through the Historical Commission.
Thanks,

I'm having trouble with all of the requests, because most of them are not
giving names, locations, etc. I have sent e-mails to a few of the people but
haven't gotten any answers yet. Who knows, may have a picture in my album as I
have quite a few.

Sounds like a great idea to me. Should we wait for a lot of the growth to die down, I know it would help in locating things faster and also allow us to see more (what may be lurking around the corner). Let me know as I'm definitly interested as I tried looking for great grandfather's grave in summer with family visiting from WI but overgrowth was bad and I wasn't sure if I really was in the right section.

Liz,
Are they also gathering information on the Knights of Pythias Greenwood Cemetery on Adams Ave. in Philadelphia? That cemetery dates from 1869 and has many Civil War and World War Veterans buried there as well as W C Fields parents and really needs help, especially the house which was once owned by Benjamin Rush. The current people who are running the Cemetery Company and who are claiming to be 'owners' have done absolutely nothing to help restore the cemetery or save the house except for having the gr

All,
Is there someone who is keeping track of these requests that can help get pictures? If we have a file of all requests then a group of us get together and meet at the cemetery we can divide and conquer to locate everyone's relatives graves. Money donated for pictures can be used towards the Friends of Mt. Moriah.

Look into the Delaware River at the Betsy Ross Bridge and you might
catch a glimpse of gravestones, their names and dates still readable. They
were dumped there as foundation for the bridge footing.

I would love to.
I was there in 2002, but couldn't find my grandfather's grave.
Since then, I found out that I have other ancestors there, but I don't want to go wandering all over the place to try to find those sections where they are buried.

If any of you folks do go to Mt. Moriah I would love to have some info and
some snap shots of our family plot. I live if Florida and it is out of the
question for me to get there. I would be glad to pay a fee for this. I have
been to the M.M. web site and found the map and know where the family is
located. So I can help that way. I just can't be there with you all in
person. Believe me I would love to go. Let me know if anyone would help me
out. Thanks Ann Brown

This was in today's Inquirer:
"An article in Saturday's Inquirer reported incorrectly that Betsy Ross
is buried in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Cobbs Creek Park. Records indicate
her body was moved to the cemetery from a Quaker burial ground 20 years
after she died in 1836. But no remains were found under her tombstone in
1975, when workers sought to move her body before the Bicentennial.
Bones believed to be hers were discovered elsewhere in the family plot

Can anyone tell me how to get information on the moving of Macpelah Cemetery to "Graceland,Northern Mount Mariah" in 1894/95?
I have the death date of a lady, Sarah Pinto, who died in 1848, was buried in Macpelah. And then I learned that Macpelah was sold and bodies moved.
I would like to find the exact location of this lady's grave [section and lot numbers] and then find if her husband , John Pinto,is buried with her. He died in 1836 and I have not been able to locate his burial.

Could I please make the same request as Ann. I live in southern Oregon and there
is no way I could travel to Philadelphia. I have the grave locations for most of the
families I know are there and I even have pictures of one of them taken about 1902.
I sent a photocopy of the pictures to the MM office a couple of years ago and they
told me that was not at Mt. Moriah but yet they had the family information and gave
me the grave location. I would really like to have a picture of what it looks like now.
