Dear Stephanie,
I do NOT plan to "drop the ball" and note the slow down in the action as
well. But I am a professor, and must put most of my related energy into work
in the summer (May - Aug). during the academic year I am on total overload
between teaching and research.
However I do work on these (genealogical) things slowly during the regular
part of the year as I can. If I had time now there is much I could say on
all related matters. But what is important is that I may well be able to

Talk about history repeating itself! I found this article in the
Philadelphia Inquirer this morning. If I find anything about the "Case" I will pass it
along. It sounds as if an African American family (the Jones family) would
like to be interred in the cemetery but the "board" is claiming that other
lot holders are against it.

It is my opinion that no single "interest" is going to be able to fix this.
Everyone participating has their own reason for wanting MM cleaned up. I
have relatives buried there (as most of you do) SAR & DAR (as it's mission and
reason for existance) are to honor the Rev. war dead. Maybe FOP because there
are officers buried there. Maybe

Hi list,
I'm the person who posted all the obituaries about a month ago. I included
many men who served in the police department. Does anyone think that it
might be a good idea to approach the FOP for their support?

I'm interested, but what seems to me to be impending doom is making its
way to my doorstep, so I really cannot do anything at this time.

PMFJI but have you people looked into using free labor from the local
criminal courts, to clean up the place? State Line Cemetery in Texarkana,
Arkansas has folks on probation working there, raking and cleaning up the
place.

Andy,
I think that sounds like a plan! It got me to thinking about other
dilapidated cemeteries that had been saved, and how that was accomplished. I did a
quick Google search and came across a long article about a graveyard in Decatur
called Greenwood, and it sounds like the city council of Decatur just "took"
the cemetery, eminent-domain style from the owners because it had become a
public nuisance and eyesore. So is it possible that we might not even have to
get the owner of the land to agre

Maybe there is a way to connect the Friends of MM website and the roots web
mm list together. I don't think it is necessary to have a 3rd website.
Already we have recieved posts that they had been to the friends of mm site
and didn't know that we on Roots web exhisted. And that was just today.

Has anybody transcribed the monuments or records of the cemetery?
Is a GEDCOM file available?
