Your site (Stokes Family Web Page) is very impressive! I have not
researched the Stokes lineage but the daughter of my great-grandparents
(Hesket Watkins) married into the Stokes family in Ellijay (Gilmer), GA. If
interested, please visit:

I don't think there's a family connection but who knows?

Hi Margaret,
I think its unlikely you'll find the name of an immigrant's father in
Quaker records in Pa. There is always a chance that some clerk will know
his father's name and include it when his children marry but that seems a
stretch. Sometimes clerks get really gabby when recording information but
since this is the immigrant, it seems ulikely.
You might sign up for the Herfordshire list and see if anyone there can
help you. My experience on the Leicestershire list hasn't been good, most

Hi Lois,
You probably got a message from my spam filter but I'll see your
original message when I check it.
I'm not aware of any connection between my Stokes family of Burlington
Co., New Jersey and any southern Stokes families. I suspect many of them
are descendants of the Christopher Stokes who settled in Virginia in the
1600s. My Stokes family were Quakers in London and previously of Wycomb,
Leicestershire.

Try repeating your request to MIDMARCH-L@rootsweb.com which
covers Herefordshire and also consider joining the Quaker Family
History Society (www.qfhs.co.uk) as a means to get at the knowledge
and experience of many UK Quaker genealogists, not all of whom will
be using Rootsweb. Best of luck.

I'm looking for my great-great grandfather, John F. Kane. Born 1838, and
died 1902. He is buried in Alverton Cemetery, Alverton, PA. He married
Mary Ann Beckner in 1866 and they had 5 children. I am trying to find the
names of his parents. I have found a Henry Kane in Allegheny County on the
1850 census with a John the right age, and John named his first son Henry.
Could be the right one. Does anyone know anything about this family?
Thanks,
Linda
