Would someone explain to me how to get any of these websites given by
guyrossjr@aol.com to work? All I get when I click on any of them is the
error page. Is there something I don't know how to do?
I am especially interested in the diaries portion since I lost an ancestor at
Spotsyvania.
Thank you.

It ends with index.html
Since the line wrapped around, the ending is on the second line. You'll have
to add that manually to the URL address line after you click on that
address.

You will find some who refer to the first and second battle of the
Wilderness. The books described below are indeed an excellent reference.
The first was fought in the spring of 1863. Just after this Lee headed
north towards Pennsylvania and Gettysburg. The second was in the spring of
1864 and Grant headed south after this battle. Remarkable similarities in
these battles.

I think it was a common practice for ships leaving Rotterdam to sail up
the east side of England and then down the east side of Ireland to the
open sea, after having made stops in both England and Ireland. I am
certainly no expert on this subject but I have always felt confident
that this information is correct.
Hello, I am searching for information about my G-Greatgrandmother Sarah Ann Beard( b.19 May 1836, m. 1 Jan 1857, d. 23 Jun 1892). She was married to Samuel Morgart in Bedford Co. I am interested in finding who her parents were. According to the census`s I have read, she was born in Maryland. I have not been able to find marriage records or death records from the Bedford Courthouse. I am also interested in finding obituaries for her and Samuel. Any help appreciated. -Ron Morgart
Yes to both - Spottsylvania and Civil War. See
http://www.nps.gov/frsp/wild.htm.
It was more an overgrown logged-over area, dense with second growth, than a
wilderness. The name makes you think of virgin forest. But 'Battle of the
pucker-brush' doesn't have that ring to it.

This battle was fought in VA if I remember correctly, somewhere around
Spottsylvania or Orange Cos. And I think it was a Civil War Battle. I
would have to look in my books when I get home. But meanwhile you could
search for it under Civil War sites on the net. Also check under National
Parks for VA. meg

You should write to the Pioneer Historical Society in Bedford and ask to buy
a copy of the Winter/Spring 2001 newsletter. I just received my copy last
week. In it is an extensive article titled "Report on the Wertz Gravesite" -
and discusses the current situation with the burial ground of George Wertz
and Nansey Christy. (PHS address is 242 East John St., Bedford, PA
15522-1750)

Sarah J (Deneen) Rockwell? She was in Monroe Twp in 1880 but I have no idea
where after that. Do any Rockwells show up all all?
Thanks for any help,

In an obituary of Simon Hanks in mentions his daughter Sarah Michaels of the

I was able to "get into" the Maryland Archibes ok, but my genealogy name of

I have had some very nice comments about the data boards and had learned a
couple of things I wanted to share: a.) if you look up and to the right when
you enter the page of a data board, there is a place where it says "Set
Preferences". Click on it and it will open and give you a choice of how you
want the entries listed. I have used last names first to make
"Alphabetization" a very useful sort. Choose it from the drop-down list and
see if you like it that way. It really helps you to see if your entry
Hello,
I have learned that John Sides was the undertaker who buried my
grgrgrandfather Augustus FISHER in Hyndman, Bedford Co., PA in 1898. Has
anyone run across John's name in their research? Would anyone therefore know
what happened to his records? Thank you.

You know how every once in awhile you write down something because it looks
vaguely familiar and you keep it around - but you don't properly source it?
I've got one of those...
We know - or think we know - that Daniel WERTZ, born about 1795 to George
Wertz and Nancy CHRISTY in Bedford County, Pa, married a Mary MAURER, born
about 1801 and had three children (Franklin, who followed the Oregon Trail
and wrote a nice series of letters/journal enroute, and two sisters). The
trail on Daniel, however, goes cold

In my very humble opinion, the best account out there of this battle is in "A
Stillness at Appomattox" by the late Bruce Catton, third in the trilogy that
includes "Mr. Lincoln's Army" and "Glory Road."
If you are really interested in the battle and want to know what it was like,
