Many of our schools, Universities and Colleges will start holding graduation
ceremonies in the next couple of months. Here is a tip that I have found to
be quite useful.
When my oldest daughter graduated from college, she turned towards the camera
with her diploma facing out - unfurled. The photograph turned out just
great! Her name and degree were clearly visible in the photograph - along
with one of her biggest smiles. I hadn't planned the photo that way, it just
happened!

I have a photo inscribed 'A Skull and Svengali' Baltimore 1898, with
Elmira,NY son Claude E. Toles,b abt 1870 sitting behind his desk,a skull
at his side and a drawing of Svengali ,probably drawn by him on the wall

Sometime ago I posted the names of the Culver's I was looking for.Since then
I have 2 names to add to the list
Sadilla and Parmenas they are brother and sister.Sadilla was married to
Rueben Dyke who was in the Civil War. Her brother Parmenas was also in the
Civil Warand died from his wounds.I recently received his military records
which gave me a lot of information. It was because of Joyce's site that I
was able to find these two ancestors. Thank You Joyce.

And what authority is this blood technician to judge what percentage of
births belong to the father who is listed on the birth certificate? Sorry,
but I don't believe for a second that 34% of women who bear children have

today, let alone in times past when people didn't have so much idle time and
spent much of their time at home.
My family must be really unusual, because 100% of us resemble one another,

Hi Everyone!
First I want to Thank everyone who responded to my question on Cherry Flats,
which I found out is spelled with one F.
Now I have a couple questions
.Where is Canoe Camp?
I may have discovered information on Parmenas's daughter Alice. If it is
her she was married at Canoe Camp.
Does anyone have any information on Timothy Culver or Joseph Culver such as
wife, children?
Again Thanks

Hi Everyone,
It is a good idea to verify even information passed down from earlier
generations. My cousin and I found some major mistakes in a genealogy
written many years before we started, and copies of it were in a couple of
local libraries, and the local Historical Society. If I had ever submitted
the information that I had to any site, there would have been big-time
mistakes. I hope to give corrected copies to the libraries and Historical
Society, but will not do it until I am pretty sur

I use PAF and recently converted from the DOS to Windows version. I'm
absolutely pleased with the new program. There is so much more there
and it is much more versatile. And, I had no problem with conversion of
files.
As with every program, back up your data files before conversion. I
learned the hard was several years ago when I lost everything in a hard
drive disaster. I now back up my files following every session, just in
case.

Hi everyone,
Just in case there are other's out there working on the Kennedy/Canady
line, I will tell you that Ken Chapman and I went to the Oak Hill and
Glenwood cemeteries in Troy, PA. a couple of weeks ago. I took pictures of
all the Kennedy/Canady graves that we found. I will keep them in my files
for another two weeks, and then I will erase them as they are not my line.
If anyone would like to check with me to find out the first names of the ones
that I photographed, contact me privately
Charmaine,
I decided to answer your letter on line incase there are others who do not
know about this. There is a book called "The Handybook for Genealogists"
published by Everton Publishers, for about $35 +/- . It lists every state
and every county in that state and tells when marriages began for that
county as well as probate, death, birth, civil court, land records, etc. It
is excellent esp. when you can not research "on location"
For Tioga Co., NY it states that the "county clerk has marriage records

to be rude.....but I was thinking about the recent turn of NEWS events
involving the Ramsey Family(Patsy and John, specifically)...

Now--if I may be bolder and more brazen-----I am glad you wrote your points,

Many thanks to Roland Elliot for posting the link for the Virtual New
Amsterdam project and map! I have been researching my Kip family line for
quite some time and was delighted to see a 1660 map of New Amsterdam. This
map and legend allowed me to see the property locations of my Dutch emigrant
ancestor, Hendrick Hendricksen Kip and his sons Isaac and Jacobus. This map
is a wonderful history lesson and an experience well worth the time even if
one does not have Dutch ancestors. Again, many thanks, Roland
Joyce - as I am in California, I can't make it to the meeting, but I would be
happy to do some data entry. Just add me to your list of volunteers - (for
the Tioga County group!)

While I haven't had the experience Dave has had with contacting an LDS
submitter, I have found a lot of duplication and inconsistencies in some of
the GEDCOM's posted.
It boils down to this: it's fine to use the information as a starting place,
but the responsibility lies with the researcher to verify and document the
evidence. I have found a lot of very useful information on the internet,
including in the LDS family history and IGI files; however, what I am
working on doing now is documenting everything
