My gr-gr. grandfather James A. McGuire died of dysentary in the Civil War. He was treated at White Hall Hospital and burried in an associated cemetary. One of the reasons I put the index in the email is the common misspelling of surnames. When searching for names, it is much easier to scroll down a page and see if anything is close to the pronunciation of the surname. Soundex gives so many variations, based on how many syllables a name has as well as sound. That makes it a bit harder to scroll through a soundex-based index.
