9. [PABUCKS-L] Promisory note: Need help understanding [1]
I am trying to understand the meaning behind this promisory note in the life of my ancestor. Why did he borrow this money? What would he have done with this amount of money in 1855? Is this enough to buy a house, bury a family member, or other? What happened to a person if they didnt repay in those days? Why is the loan payable to a specific person via the bank, not a loan directly from the bank? Any help you could provide helping me understand this document would be appreciated, or suggestions for types

BISHOP, the Wilmington school girl, who was assaulted on last Thursday afternoon, was taken from the New Castle county work-house, at New Castle, early on Monday evening, and burned to death by a mob of infuriated citizens from the vicinity of Miss BISHOP's home. Sorry Sandy, we must have two different Joseph English's. Yours may be a son. The LDS info indicates he had a son named Joseph b.sometime from 1645 to 1655. I don't know any more about that. Does anyone know which Catholic parish would be likely to have sacrament records for a family that lived in Lahaska around 1850 to 1870? I found records in Lambertville NJ for some of the family that lived in New Hope--they evidently walked across the bridge to go to church, but not for the group in Lahaska, and they married and had baptisms during this time.... thanks for any help... Hi My interest is collateral at best, but I have the following tidbit on Henry Comly from 'THE HISTORY OF BUCKS CO BY W W H DAVIS vol 1 p 184 as quoted by Charles H Dayton in his A Brach of the Dayton Family, 1951 (my uncle) ""Henry Comley who came wit his wife and son from Bristol, England 1682 located 500 acres -- the grant was made to him before they left England by William Penn, Comly died 1684, and his wife remarried (not named either side) 1685, died1689. The animal was tied as usual but in some manner he, during the night, drew the neck strap tight and thereby strangled himself. Mr. TAGERT only recently paid $155 for the animal.
