Dear Mr. Miller:
Enclosed please find a photocopy of the only letter (coded as 4-H-6) in the
archives from Edward V. James to Bishop [later Archbishop] John Carroll.
Since this letter seemingly has nothing to do with your area of research, I

This is part 3 of material I put together several years ago on the fued in
the early days of Cambria .....
Loretto as it exists today gives the impression that peace and quiet reigned
here for a thousand years. However, all was not always peaceful in
Camelot. It is interesting to notice what columns of dry figures and facts
can tell in addition to the purported intention to keep books. In the
Memorandum Book we find transactions between Demetrius Gallitzin and a man
named James C. McGuire of E
This is the second part of some material that I wrote some time ago about
the squabbles between Gallitzin and some of the Early Cambria people.....
We now take for granted those institutions of our society which seem to
have been there forever: administration of justice, religion, education. We
are watching the beginnings of these in early Cambria. The establishment of
the `establishment' as it were. In their early days these institutions had
nothing of the aura of permanence or stability that
following are excerpts from unpublished material that I wrote called
A Romp Through Early Cambria Co. PA. It is comprised of seven chapters
dealing with events in early Cambria. The focus of it is NOT the squabbles
between Gallitzin and his parishioners, but
since these events loom large, some of that is taken into account.
And Gallitzin did not just have the project of establishing peace and
tranquility in the country about Loretto. Domestic peace must have been a
project at times too. In his o

I wanted to share this web page, which was sent to me by a distant cuzzy, it's about George Amandus DIETRICH.

Several years ago I was writing about the troubles in Early Cambria in the
first decade of the 19 th cen. This is only a part of what I wrote; perhaps
I'll post more later. I realize that it does not exactly correspond with
the 'party line' story of Gallitzin put forth by people in the Catholic
Church. I have tried hard to tell the truth as I understand it. And
further, I have noticed that one of the worst insults that an honest man can
have is a dishonest biographer.. Gallitzin has often been
want to wind this up with a story
On a trip to Loretto, I visited the Chapel House, where Gallitzin used to
live. I was speaking to the person who worked there, who was telling me
about all of the presences encountered there. These were the Things that
go bump in the night kind of happenings that seem to lack any physical
explanation. There would be footsteps suddenly heard, and just as suddenly
stop, when no one else was in the house. And other unexplainable events
were implied. It came
Hi All,
Found this on Rootsweb Review this morning and since it has Prince Gallitzin of our Cambria County area, thought you might like to read it. Hope it might help someone.

I am going down to the National Archives and look up the 1910 census

His name is William E Williams. He might have been a miner in Clearfield as well, does anybody know of a book or website or other resource which contains miners' names from other counties besides Cambria?
Thanks,

Seeking info on David GAULT family.
According to the Ellis Island site, David lived in South Fork in 1911, when
his son, Robert, came back from Scotland with his bride, Georgina. Other
children of David and Elizabeth would have been:

Thanks to everybody who replied to my Beula / Beulah question. I simply
figured that if it was an abandoned town in the 1830's nothing existed

This is simply the =best= group of folks !!
Thanks again :) Sue

I went to the Library of Congress website, and it is a great place to view
the maps. I'm still not sure that I would buy a reproduction there, though.
It looks like it would cost approximately the same amount to get a

arrive. Mine arrived from the zazzle.com web site in about 3 days. I guess
if you don't mind the wait, it would be better to support the Library of
