So the father JOHN may have been born in the 1630s or 40s
There are a few John Pace Christenings
As a history teacher, I often heard remarks like "well, at least you don't have to update your lesson plans all the time; history doesn't change. Oh, but it does--for you see, history is NOT the past--history is what we THINK the past was like. History writing is "part science and part art". The science part is in careful verification and use of sources. The art part is selecting the most important sources and weaving them into a story, which is the historian's INTERPRETATION of what the past was like.
I've seen the year 1667 given as the year of John's birth, but I'm
not aware of how this date has been obtained. I've looked at my
resources and find nothing that supports that date, or any date for
that matter.
Can someone enlighten me?

What an unusual name for an English Pace--Lewellyn. Generally this was a
name given to a male child by Welsh parents, in honor of Welsh Princes.
Perhaps one of the wives was a Welsh lady.

Thank you Val Tice for the wonderful information you sent to this list for me recently. How helpful it was! The will abstract you sent me is just the kind of solid information I was looking for on Thomas Pace's wife. So her name was Amy. That is such a help. And how helpful it was too to learn the names of the children, and to learn such things as that Thomas had a plantation on Ceder (sic) Creek and had a grist mill. Thank you so much. -Jim Doherty

Thanks for passing on this information.... With so much bashing of our public
school systems these days it was really nice to hear that there are teachers
that are concerned for all children especially those facing the most

rather than the many positives.....
My congratulations go to Betsy, she is truly an asset to the Pace name.......

Okay, since we don't know when John of Middlesex was born, nor who
his parents were, it follows that we don't know for certain that he
was even born in America.
Since the DNA evidence seems to suggest that John might have been
related to the Shropshire Paces, if we look at the ancestry shown at

Roy:
Ruth Keyes Clark, on the Pace Mail List, pointed out that there was a 1702
militia record for John Pace of Middlesex, "by custom those serving in the
militia were rarely over 45 so he was born 1657 or after." The land purchase
in 1693 implies a birth year of before 1672, probably at least a few years
before, as you pointed out. So this is consistent with John Pace of
Middlesex being the John Pace baptised in Hungar's Parish, Northampton Co, VA
in 1662, son of a John Pace and Mary. Northampton

The speculation about possible new knowledge about a potential origin and
lineage for John of Middlesex is interesting but may be premature. Has anyone
considered the following?
The DNA results obtained to-date seem to show a group of four (4) who share a
common ancestor. Three (3) of these claim decent from John of Middlesex and
another has documented a decent from Shropshire England. The results do not
show who that common ancestor may be.
There is a single person, #6281, who claims decent from John
Could this is McDonald Pace or McDaniel Pace (both names used). If so,
his wife was named Harriet, I recall. Can anyone on Pace-L help?
