Hi All - The phone number for the VA office in any state is
1-800-827-1000.
You may or may not find that the VA has your ancestors' Civil War
records. Generally if your ancestor or dependent was recieving benefits
in 1934 the VA will have the records. That is the year in which the
Pension Bureau became the VA. If you go to the pension index either on
www.ancestry.com or at a branch of the National Archives and you find a
C or XC number written on the card, then you can be sure the VA has the
records. A C o

p. 386. Charles H. Garber is listed as a member of the bar in Chester County,
as of 12 November 1849.
p. 260. John Garber was named a deacon in the Great Valley Baptist Church on
14 Jan 1847.
Those are the only mentions of Garbers, but if you are related to John, all
we have to find out is where Great Valley is (was?).

Bob,
The first book that Carol mentions is available from Higginson Books
(www.higginsonbooks.com). It's a 1997 "reprint":

I bought my first copy of Ashmead's History of DelCo from them. They're
extremely pleasant and cooperative, but I was a little disappointed in the
quality of the book. It was pretty expensive ($90+ when you add in
shipping), and it is a "photo-reproduction". Some pages a
Marj, I wish we could do this but I'm afraid it would be a violation of
copyright even if the list server could handle the size of the files (which
it can't). With so many online mapping services available such as Yahoo, a
recent map seems rather redundant also. What I would like to see though is
some of the older maps of the area that might help folks find areas that
don't have the same names anymore. If anyone knows of where some of these
might be located online, how about posting the links here?

The Province of New England is an early term for the state of New Jersey.
It inherited the name "Province of New England" after the mother county
who first began to establish this land. Similar to Pennsylvania taking the
name
from it's founder, William Penn. It later took the names of East and
West New Jersey.
The county of Essex can be found in t

Carmen: I have collected some information on Samuel and Robert Finley, but,
as usual, there was more than one generation with those names. Samuel Finley
who was President of Princeton was, of course a Presbyterian.
I believe it only gives the occupation of the head of the family. Does not give
names of family members.

I have a brick wall, that is almost impossible to know down. However,
there is always hope.
I am trying to determine the Parentage of Florence Hoops d: 11/19/1959.
The birth date is interesting. Here birth date was "assigned" 9/23/1911,
but celebrated it 10/12/1911. The information that I have, on here birth
is from the Children's Aid Society of Pennsylvania. She was under their
care from 6/6/1912 until 4/17/1928.
Florence was placed in the care of the CASP by the Dept. of

I have GOLDING relatives who came to Buffalo NY from Civil Parish of

Bill,
I sent that message originally from my WEB-TV. Maybe there is something
between WEB-TV and AOL that changed it for you. I am sorry if I did
something wrong. I didn't put those =20 and =A0 in the message I sent.
Something got translated in the code. Sorry if it messed you up.

Why am I suddenly getting this strange coding in some of messages like the
one shown below? I assume people are attempting to format their letters
rather than just using text. I use AOL so hopeully there isn't some other
problem. Any ideas?

Hi Lister's,
Does anyone have a copy of the History of Chester County?
Would like to request a look-up for the surname GARBER
Does it reference anything to this name? Particularly what country they may
have migrated from.
Thanks in advance,
