In 1748 Rev. John Philip Leydich after being commissioned by the Synod of
Holland arrived in Philadelphia and was installed as pastor of Falkner Swamp

reformers in Pike's town, or as he and Henry Mulenberg called it, "the

I couldn't have stated this any better myself. I contribute what I can to
help some of these lists nearly everyday. I, as well as so much of the
world, found myself glued to the TV last week and not to the Genealogy
Lists. We all will re-engage in activities at our own pace and deal with
our grief and sorrow for this country in our own ways. As I re-engage
myself in Genealogy research and support to others my hope is that people
think about what they write on these lists before they hit
Hi Judy - (cc: to List for clarification)
I knew you would understand the msg. that I sent to you...my MISTAKE was
just *clicking* it to the list, in general, and not to you, off-list.
But, I don't think it's appropriate for other people on a List to "jump in"
and respond to a msg. sent to another lister, and not to
them..."jumping-the-gun" so to speak. My message was to you, not them.
Oh well...people have been on edge, sad, etc. It's been a hard thing for
our Country.
I also did nothing but watch TV
Judy,
My guess would be (and it's only a guess) that since there is a value
attached to Robert Ayers's service, then he's an indentured servant, although
#100 seems tremendously high for 1715.

Charles Glatfelter's book 'Pastors and People' Vol 1, pub 1980, has this
about E Vincent Church:
This Reformed congregation in E Vincent township began as part of a

In 1/1751, Henry M Muhlenberg (Lutheran) wrote that, across the

You don't have to contact the Courthouse in West Chester. You can write to
the Chester County Archives and request a copy of the administration papers.
Their charge is $5/15 pages, and these files are rarely that large.
Thomas Gilbert is not the administrator. He evidently died intestate (without
a will) as it's his estate administration which was administered by Samuel
Lamplugh
The administration papers may show some relationships to people in the area.

Hi, Judy,
Hope some of this helps.
The following is from Early Church Records of Delaware Co., PA, Vol. 2 by
Peden and Launey (Family Line Publications [now Willow Bend Books], 1997,
Concord Monthly Meeting Addendum, p. 238:
Abel Otley, according to notations, went to see the girl who would later

after. Abel replied, 'That gal,' point to John's dau. Elizabeth. The match
was not agreeable to John and they went off at night." Ab

My message to Judy wasn't intended to be rude...I usually enjoy reading all
of her postings, and I've saved some of them, but my heart isn't into
genealogy right now, and since I belong to many Lists (some overseas), and
what with all the comments about the attack, etc., I have 922 emails in my
in-box.
So, when I see a genealogy msg. about someone I don't know, I have to delete
them. Judy's msg. asked a question about her Pyles & yeomen. Under normal
circumstances, I would take the time to
passing this on to you.

Hi Chuck:
St. Vincent U.C.C. is my church. Kenny Bainbridge is the sexton. He's the
one you contact to purchase the gravesites, so he would probably have a list
of everyone who is buried there (including my grandmother, grandfather, and
my 15mo old daughter).
I have been a member there for 32 years (was even baptized there).
The address and phone number to the church is:

I understand that the Chester cnty Archives have the Chester cnty Tax Lists
from 1715 forward.
Two questions: would these include tax lists for those parts now in
Delaware cnty as of 1789?
and
How are the Tax Lists recorded? By name? address? indexed, etc. in that
time period?
In other words, how much do you have to know to find if your ancestors are
on those Tax Lists?
Okay, okay, that was three questions. Sorry 'bout that! I lied.
Chuck Wolfram is correct, I mistakenly gave you a bum steer. The courthouse
won't have the records. The correct place to order this LOA for Thomas
GILBERT and any other wills and estate
records in Chester County at that time, is to contact the Chester County
Archives

Hello Listers. I am looking for a will for Arthur Latimer, who is
alleged to have died in 1765. He is on the list of taxables for 1753 in
that place (Futhey and Cope, page 182). Have had no success finding his
will in the Chester County records. Could it be that his location ended
up in Delaware, and if so, does anyone know how to access Delaware
records for that area and time frame? Florence

Limerick has a couple of churches in the town itself. One of the biggest
cemeteries in Limerick is the "Limerick Garden of Memories". It is huge!!!
I will have to look at the sign on the church on Limerick Center Road (which
is where I live). I actually never took notice to it's name, sorry to say.

For those of you who have never dealt with the folks at Chester Co Archives,
they are wonderful! Chuck is right about them finding stuff if you just
give them a name and a death date - there have been times where all I had
was an unusual surname, and they helped with that. They are efficient, too.
I can't say enough nice things about Barbara Weir, their head archivist.

I am looking for any information pertaining to Thomas Powell, born August 7
