The Venango Path ran north from Pittsburgh through Venango (Franklin) at
the mouth of French Creek and Cussewago (Meadville) to Presque Isle
(Erie). From 1753 to 1794 it was an important military road for the
French, British, and eventually the Am

Hi from South Carolina!!
A couple years ago, a short birth/death date calculator appeared on this
page. It could be used if you know either birth or death date and age of
person at death. I printed it out, and have lost the sheet. Does anyone
have these directions handy, and if so, would you please share them?
Thanks in advance

Pete, I would love it if you posted the information you got from the book you
mentioned. I think it helps to have the historical information that people
have been so gracious to share on this list. I, for one, have enjoyed
reading the posts. Keep up the good work everyone, and thanks for sharing.

Dear Listers:
I understand that my great great grandfather Daniel Lamb was a railroad conductor on a line that came through Crawford County - either Meadville or Townville or ? We have a family photo of him in his uniform. Again I'm guessing as to the time frame, but the clarity of the photo - a candid shot, not posed in a studio - and his age in the photo - probably early to mid-60's, leads me to believe that it was taken sometime in the 1920's. He's in his conductor's uniform. Might have been a retir

I too have been curious about all the Texans with roots in Crawford County.
In my case, the Harps (Mom's maiden name) went from Crawford Co. to Elk
County and settled in in Ridgway. Then in 1954 we came to Texas for the
weather (Dad had a sister that married a Texan while she was stationed here,
we visited, then moved here.) I still go back as often as possible.

When I was going to school in Meadville back in the 40s we were taught:
French Creek (the "river" that flows through Meadville) flows into the
Allegheny R., which joins with the Monongahela R. at Pittsburgh to form
the Ohio River, which flows into the Mississippi, which flows into the
Gulf of Mexico! This helped us identify our place in the grand scheme I
guess.

I too am guilty of not acknowledging the efforts of others! I've enjoyed the series of things I have seen posted to this list. (Esp. the newspapers and the Waid souvenirs of recent) I would just as soon have stuff sent out - and those who don't find it useful can delete it. One never knows where one is going to find a lead.
I vote for going ahead and sharing the info - and express my appreciation in advance!

Hi Listers,
Gotta jump in.....
I love maps! So I whipped out my New York State map because when I started
telling my husband about French Creek three years ago - he said -"Wait a
minute - we (the High School baseball team) used to play against someone in
French Creek!"
Well at that time (1952) we were living in Jamestown, New York.
Sure enough there was a French Creek - and also a Township of French Creek -
in the southwestern most corner of NY State!
That Creek would appear to be the same one th

I have just checked out the book _Indian Paths of Pennsylvania_ by Paul.
A. W. Wallace. It was written in 1965 and published by the Pennsylvania
Historical and Museum Commission in Harrisburg. It documents the indian
paths that later became the roads that our ancestors travelled. There
appear to be five paths that lead from the south and west to Meadville
(Cussewago).
I am reluctant to post information about these paths until I know there
is an interest. In the recent past, there were two series

Hi Paula, Your Cemetary Restoration article was wonderful. The work of
John Walters is such a labor of love and dedication, and I wish he could be
cloned for all our cemetaries.
It brought to mind the Brawley Cemetary, in which many of my ancestors are
buried, and I believe it has overgrown, unfortunately. I know that there are
many people in the Crawford Co. area who have done much work in this regard,
and we are all grateful to them. Thank you so much for bringing all this to
our attention! Billie R
Folks...
Whoa. Within a couple of hours, 8 of you responded positively. I'll do it,
starting the first of the week.
I was pleased that every one of the 8 messages were so positive. It is going to
take me some time to scan maps and text, and to annotate the text. I know that
what I will do is no less than what others have done on this list. I have
profited from their work. It's "thanks" time.

Hi
I was looking around for my Conner family, and along the way, found some
Conners (so far not mine) and some Goodwins that lived in Chautauqua Co.
NY and some that moved to Titusville, Crawford Co. PA.
I have members of the Burton, Ely and Conner families who should have
been in the Chautuaqua area at the same time, but so far no matches.
Some later moved to Crawford Co. PA. Would like to correspond with
anyone who finds a match here.

Hi all - I think I have corresponded with somebody on here about
GILSON. My greatgrandmother Rosetta LUPHER 1851-1929, of Townville,
married (first husband, not my ancestor), John Delos GILSON 1843-1874.
I have never been able to connect him to the rest of the Crawford County
GILSONs although I am sure he was connected.
Anyway, I am on the Philadelphia list for entirely unrelated reasons,
and I got the death notice of a James GILSON "beloved husband of Mary
(nee HAYES)", who died in Philadelphia in 1951.
Does anyone know if there exists any high school pictures circa
1907-1910 ? The reason is...my husband G.Grandfather died tragically
in 1914. There is only one picture we have of him. He was born in
1892 and raised in Cambridge Springs. Does anyone if any pictures
exist ?
