Vince,
It looks like you have been very successful in tracing your family back to
Germany. I wonder if you are interested in giving me some tips to get me past
my brick wall.
My great grandfather, George Snyder, born June 30, 1823 in Dauphin Co., PA is
as far as I've been able to get. The 1880 census says his parents were born
in Germany. I have not been able to identify his parents or any of his
siblings. I'm really stuck.
I've been looking for a George or a John as his father. In George's

Thanks, Jan, for a story that is new to me. Fascinating :)

Alexander Hamilton SHRENK had an auction and furniture business in Harrisburg, Dauphin Co., PA.
About 1890, he had the following stores at
325 Broad 406 Forster Harrisburg PA,
325 Broad 1906 N 6th Harrisburg PA,
and one at
181 S Front Hbg Steelton PA.
Has anyone ever seen any old postcards showing that
section of Harrisburg?
Thank you,
Bonnie

Glad you like the Highspire Cemetery Web page. It's simple, but
sufficient details to track down ancestors.
You didn't say where you would be coming from, but from Route 83

I'm researching Long family in Altoona. I have Sarah A Long who was born in
1863 and died 08-23-1945 and buried in Oakridge Cemetery. She was married to
Miles Long. I know of two daughters: Margaret E who d. 1971 and Bessie who
died 1958. In the 1930 Census, they were living in Harrisburg, next door to a
David Wingard. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I do have some
info I can share.

St Mary's Catholic Cemetery is the one on Main and Vine Streets in
Middletown. You can see the recorded burials on my web page at :)

I am hoping you can assist me with!
I have a Philadelphia George KILLINGER who married, twice. Once
to a COLLET(T), and the other time to a BENNET(T).
Now there was a George KILLINGER, apparently associated with
Dauphin, who was born, according to Wolfgang Killinger of Germany,
August 25, 1734.
Here is what Wolfgang actually says:

I just was told that George KILLINGER of Dauphin was
in the 1790 census! It cannot be *my* George, if so.
He was apparently listed under KEELINGER.
The numbers don't match, and my fellow *is* listed
in Philadelphia, with the correct numbers...
So I am, at least, disproving that they were one and
the same.

P.S. If anyone has access to the image of that
Dauphin census, would you be willing to send me a
copy?

Was Killinger creek, west of Annville named for Jacob?
I added the HOFFMEISTER headstones in the HIGHSPIRE cemetery to my
Highspire page. These photos are highly compressed and degraded,
for speedier downloading. In the event you need any of them for
your records, I'll be happy to shoot the original, uncompressed
photos to you after the busy hours (they run about a quarter million
bytes per photo) :(
And thanks to Maxine for digging up the missing "D" page for the
Middletown Cemetery. It has been integrated with the "D"s, making
that section complete
On several occasions I have used a film in The Juniata Co. Historical Society's archival library entitled "Marriage License Docket 1852-1853, 1858-1863." As I recall, each document was titled "Application To Marry."
I believe the JCHS film was made from records physically located in the Juniata Co. courthouse, so I would suggest contacting the Dauphin Co. courthouse for the marriage license you seek. You might find contact information for Dauphin Co. at http://www.vitalrec.com/pacounties5.html#Dauphin

Could anyone tell me anything at all about this Company or where I could
find information about it? There are muster rolls for it listed in the
Pennsylvania Archives, but nothing at all about where they served either in the
Archives or in The Pennsylvania Line. Martin Weaver was from Millersburg so it
must have been composed primarily of Dauphin County men. I find two of my
family members, including one ancestor, on the muster rolls.

There was a Nicholas Gast/Cast/Garst/Gerst who was head of a household in
Dauphin County during the 1800 census. He lived on Little Swatara Creek in
one of the Hanover Townships. Would appreciate it if someone who has easy
access to the 1800 Dauphin census would look him up and tell me what age
bracket he was in. I know that he was over age 45 in the 1810 census and
need to know if he was over or under age 45 in 1800.
A peek in the 1820 census would also be nice, but I suspect that he may have

If you have the name of the minister I would suggest that you try to
find out what church the marriage was solemnized in. In that period it
was common for ministers to record marriage facts in a journal that you
might be able to find.
