Thank you, Elaine and Helen, My father would have attended school roughly 1901-1913. His family lived very near Widener their entire lives. His father was working for PMC (now Widener) as a fireman when he died in 1932. 3. need some help from some old residents [1]
I would like to know if anyone knows the surname GIRARD. Seems I have been searching for info on these people forever. There would have been a Mary Girard, Joan Girard, and Alice Girard who would have attended Glen-Nor High School in Prospect Park Pa I am guessing between the years of 1945 to 1957. The fathers name was Robert the mother Margaret They had a brother who drowned in the quarry I think at Tinicum about 1956 or so he was only 17. I believe they lived in Glenolden. All three girls would be

6. Re: Cemeteries [1]
Just to mess you up further!!! First I thought you should look at Chester Co. But then I remembered that my Gt Gt grandfather died in 1804, having lived in Upper Darby, and he is buried in Blockley Baptist Church Cem in now Philadelphia! It was just across the line from Upper Darby! And I only know that he was buried there because a genealogist was walking down the street years ago and saw workmen loading tombstones on a truck from a cemetery. He asked what they were doing and got permission to copy a

9. Chester address/church [1]
Hello~ If somebody lived at "6 East of Booth Street" in 1888 in CHester and 3106 N. 6th Street in 1900 in Chester, what would have been the likely Methodist church they would have attended? Are both those addresses in the same general area? (I'm wondering if the *6 East of Booth* means 6th Street. Thanks..... Kathy Dowe
10. 4904 Woodland Ave Drexel Hill [1]
I am looking for information on a school which was located at 4904 Woodland Ave. I got this address from an Upper Darby Year book 1939 address under the picture. I have no idea what type of "school" this was (reform school, detention center or...) I know it was in operation until the 60's. I went to a reunion or fair that was held there early 60's, it may have been late 50's. They had a dairy, I don't know if it was connected to WaWa Dairies or if they sold milk to WaWa. The students who stayed at thi

12. Old Swedes Church [1]
In responce to Mary Jefferson, Old Swedes Church is in Wilmington, Delaware, now called Trinity Church, I believe. They have a website. The church was originated by the Swedes in the 17th century, but many denominations married there. Marriage records are available, but a bit steep in price. I have a Quaker ancestor recorded married there in 1731, who was promptly disowned by the Friends. As far as what religion they would be, where they came from would probably give you a clue. 16. Affidavits & Cemeteries? [1]
Hi list, In the past, I have always asked, at the cemetery office, who pays for the perpetual care or for the upkeep of the graves. This helps you find other relatives, (mostly ones still living). Of course I would ask who purchase the lot & who now owns it. Now, I know to ask for affidavits, too! :) I sent to Woodlawn Cemetery, in the Bronx, for records. When I received the info I received something I never thought of pertaining to the owners of cemetery lots -- affidavits. The affidavi
17. Re: Cemeteries Upper Darby or Philadelphia? [1]
Hi Mary, Have you tried the following library? UPPER DARBY SELLERS LIBRARY 76 S. State Street Upper Darby, PA 19082 Genealogical collection (books & maps) Have you found the PYOTT Family in the Federal Census Records in 1830 & before? Are they living in the Upper Darby area? In the past, I have found many family genealogist looking to find where their family members from Upper Darby are buried -- most often it is in the Philadelphia area or other surrounding counties. The follow

19. Re: Cemeteries Upper Darby or Philadelphia? [1]
Thanks for your help everyone. You've given me a couple of leads to follow up on for cemeteries. Now for another question. James and Rose (Kearns) Pyott were married in 1772 in Old Swede's Church in Philadelphia. (After that they are recorded as living in Upper Darby.) What religion would they be? I've looked the church up on various websites, but can't put my finger on it. Then I read that sometimes Quakers who were marrying outside the fold would get married in that church, but I can't find any reco
20. School Records -- Wetherill School [1]
Judy, On a map (c1916), I found a school at 15th & Walnut Sts. It does not give the name of the school but I think it is Wetherill. This is the school closest to 431 E. 12th St., Chester, Delaware Co., PA but of course this does not mean it is the school your father attended. If he went to a Catholic School it was most likely St. Michael's at 7th & Welsh Sts. If he graduated from Chester High School there are year books (with pictures of the graduates) at the DCHS.
21. Who were "Robert Pyle & Susannah his wife"? [1]
Greetings, list! I'm trying to identify several Pyles named in a 1794 deed that descended through my wife's family for a plot of land straddling the border of Bethel Township, Delaware County, PA, and New Castle County, Del. I presume these people are somehow related to my wife, but am not sure how. First, here's my wife's line: Robert Pyle (1660-1730) - Ann Stovey Daniel Pyle (1694-1756) - Mary Pennell Robert Pyle (1730-?) - Rebecca Hampton Daniel Pyle (1755-1833) - Prudence Dutton

Hello veterans and newbies of the RootsWeb. I have received permission from the listowner to make this offer. There are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are more than 41718 prisoners on record from the Union, (5056 from Pennsylvania) and quite a few who were held prisoner here as Union regime
