2. Fayette County Historic Shrines [1]
With all the history being posted to the list lately I thought that I would add another source. This book is in the Reference Room of the Hagerstown Library so not available to take out; I do not have sufficient time at the library to copy out the articles and do lookups too. Hopefully there is someone on the list in a better position to post the stories to the list. This book may be available in the Fayette County Libraries for take out as it is a local subject book and the library may have multiple cop
3. John Mason / Elizabeth Garwood = Fayette Co., PA [1]
Last week I posted a query seeking information on the identity of John Mason who married Elizabeth Garwood in Fayette Co., PA in 1794. The Redwood Meeting Quaker records indicate that Elizabeth Mason formerly Garwood was expelled from the Quaker Meeting marrying a non-Quaker. Several respondents provided circumstantial information which seemed to suggest a good possibility that my John Mason might be John Mason/Maurer Jr., son of Johannes Mason/Maurer, founder of Masontown. Thanks very much to all who re

5. Re: RICHEY-JENKINS-DAVIS in Georges Twp. [1]
Hi, Mathew, I have this Esther JENKINS as the dau. of John and Elizabeth ? Jenkins. This John Jenkins owned land in Georges Twp., too. His dau. Hannah married Philip DAVIS son of "my" Owen Davis and Sarah Owens. Regarding the land, John JENKINS and Robert RICHEY owned adjacent parcels, bordering on the northern branch of Georges Creek. "My" Owen DAVIS' land was on both sides of the southern branch of Georges Creek. John JENKINS called his land "Prospect" and it was surveyed, patented, and warranted in

CHINORED@aol.com wrote: Would anyone know if Ashsah is a woman's name? Hi, Julia, I have an Ashbel RUBLE born about 1770 and I finally learned that this was a male. According to my unabridged Webster's Asher, Ashby, Ashton, and Ashford are male names and even Ashley, which I thought was female these days, so my guess would be that it is a MALE name. Although, like the Ashbel, the last two letters were common in female names such as Sarah and Hannah. Best regards, Jane -- Jane McCann Walsh Smithfiel

12. Greenlick/Mud School [1]
I found the info on Greenlick and Mud School pertaining to Bullskin Twp. very interesting as my ancestor (Andrew Carnack) attended that school and was later a school superintendent in that area. Of particular interest is the author's name: Dorothy Uhrin Cousins. Andrew Carnack's mother was Anna Uhrin. She immigrated from Czech. in the late 1800s. Andrew was my grandmother's brother. If anyone knows how I can reach Ms. Cousins, please let me know. Donna

14. Re: Indian Peter [1]
Hi, Jeanne and anyone else interested in Indian PETER, Yes, there is an Historical Society in Fayette. Hope that someone who knows the specifics will answer you. Regarding Indian Peter, there are several mentions in Hadden's History of Uniontown. First on p. 12 Hadden writes that Beeson named one of his streets Peter street "in honor of a very worthy friendly Indian who then lived in the neighborhood. This latter street ran parallel with Elbow street [so named for the curve of the land] on the north and

Hi Cuz, It is my understanding that the union or Local office might be able to help you. By "local" I mean Local # ?. Anyway, my mother has my father's. He worked at Robena. He started in the mines around 1934. About 4 or 5 years ago, there was an ad in the paper informing miners that the records which were kept in Masontown for his particular Local were either being moved or being thrown out. If the miners were interested they could come and get them. I don't know which Local this was, nor how far back the

19. Jane McCann Walsh [1]
Jane, many thanks to you for your offer to check Ellis' History on the tax records. The name I am searching is James Beatty in Springhill Township, ca. 1828 - 1835. I have requested our local library through the I.L.L. services to find a copy of the History of Fayette County by Ellis to use for a while. That could take a long time. I really appreciate any information you might find. James A. (Jim) Beatty

21. Historians [1]
Hello; So many of you kind folks have responded to my questions regarding ancestoers in Fayette Co, I wonder if you would be so kind as to help me again? It would be appreciated. Now that I have found out the LEONARD CLARK was an innkeeper on the Old Pike during construction, can any one tell me what his relationship to JOB CLARK was? From my map of Henry Clay Twp I see that Job Clark owned land there in 1804. After 1804 he seems to have just kept buying land there in various places in Henry Clay Twp.
22. Re: Low family-1880 Georges, p. 196 [1]
Well, I see on the bottom of p 196, house #108. This James Low and wife Mary E. are too old to be my Ida Jackson Low. She must have married a brother to this James and his brother Isaac. James and wife Mary must have named their daughter Ida after their new sister-in-law as the marriage should have taken place in about 1878. Does anyone know this LOW(e) family with sons JAMES & ISAAC? I know of one other family member -- GRANT LOWE who married a Miss CROSBY around 1892. Diana Williams

when I first noticed this, I thought the judgement was against my William, but now at second reading, I read it differently. >>>. ANDREW NICHOLSON files his petition and tenders his bond with JOSEPH MCCOY as security to JOSEPH OGLEBEE. On 27 Oct. 1828 petitioner assigns his property to ROBERT MCBURNEY Esq. and WILLIAM BALSLEY for the use of his creditors and is discharged. His notice to creditors was to appear in one Fayette County and one Washington County newspaper.<<<<<<<<< I'm not good at legal lingo
