3. Unidentified subject! [1]
Thanks to all those who responded to my Nineweth question. It seems logical that the mystery town is indeed Nineveh - I should have thought of that myself! And this is a perfect example that you can't always trust something just because it's in a newspaper. We have to keep checking until we're as sure as we can be of our information. Thanks again.. 5. Re: Cooley Gang [1]
Hi, Chuck, Oh, so you have not read the "Other Side" book, eh? I've loaned out my copy, so I won't try to quote the title and author's name without referencing the book. Actually the stories in that book about the Cooley gang may be the same ones that are told in Marci Lynn McGuinness' book "Yesteryear in Smithfield and Point Marion." The first section of this book is devoted to the Cooley Gang and also has, what is likely the same, a grand photo of the gang. McGuinness writes: 'On September 27, 1892

8. Sleep Well! [1]
Hey Sherry, Last week we did the mountain trip and were also exhausted. Glad you got up and out! Yeah, I had heard that they hired three people to replace you which made me laugh. Although Sue is down playing it, I think she's looking forward to taking the lead on the new building. The added responsibility probably helped prompt the asset inventory specialist position so her time would be freed up a little. Whatever, I'm happy with my decision. And you are right, it's a deadend with Time Warner. How

It has always been my understanding that cattle branding was done to thrawrt rustling. Cattle rustling was never a problem--to my knowledge--in SW Pa. 11. I Thank you List for your support [1]
Greetings List, I wanted to take a moment and express my deep appreciation for everyone who has prayed for my father over the past year. Those of you who know me know that I traveled back to PA from MS often to be with my dad & continue my BAILES research. This is the time no one likes to think about as God is about to call my dad home. He has 1-2 weeks left. I am leaving my warm climate on Thurs night to head your way. I will spend anywhere from several weeks to several months in Pa, however l

13. Re: Laurel Hill Church Records [1]
Hi, Jean, You asked: > . . . .Uniontown Library has copies of the records for any of the Laurel Hill > Presbyterian churches? (A recent message indicated there was at least one split > in that church.) Sorry, but I don't know the answer to that question, but, yes, there was a split. The Old Cem. is roughly 1.5 miles East of the main Cem. adjacent to the church that still exists with this name. Check the archives for Ken O'Neal's description about finding the Old Cem. Also, there may be something in the

16. Re: Message in a Bottle - BAILES grave site at Oak Grove Cem. [1]
Greetings Clara & List, Sorry I can not help you with HANEYS. While roaming around Oak Grove Cemetery in Uniontown (while hunting down more BAILES') I found potted flowers at one of my BAILES' grave sites. Wondering who this could be I left the same style message-in-a-bottle at the headstone. I wrote a page of info (with non-fading ink) and slipped it into the bottle along with my business card. The bottle I used was glass. I like the sand idea, will try that next time. And I forgot about the

18. Re: Re "relict" [1]
There is no doubt in my mind that Mahala & Tegle cherished each other deeply. The epitaphs on either side of the column [there must be a technical term for it] at the TRADER site in Oak Grove, brought tears to our eyes Happy Familying Laura Irby in VA

20. Census Lookup [1]
Would anyone on this list happen to have a copy of the 1900 census for Fayette County? I am looking for info on my grandfather. I have very little information on my grandfather, Jeremiah Francis CROW. His marriage certificate says he was b. in Fayette County and that his parents names were Milton & Sarah CROWE. My grandfather didn't use the "E" on the end of his name. I believe he was b. in 1890/1 as he stated his age as 24 on his marriage certificate in 1914. Until I got a copy of his marriage certi
21. Re: Fletcher Cemetery [1]
There is no Fletcher Cemetery listed & no Fletcher Church under any denomination. Maybe your mother meant a Fletcher Plot? See if she can describe the surroundings, roads, places etc. It might help someone from the area to identify which cemetery. Happy Familying Laura Irby in VA
22. Re: Sharp Funeral Home [1]
Hi to all, Can anyone tell me where the Sharp Funeral Home was in the Fayette County Area? I have relatives that used this Funeral Home years ago. I wonder where all their obits and papers are - if another Funeral Home would now have them. Tonya
23. Re: St. Stephens Byzantine Church [1]
Jane and List, The list of County Houses of Worship to which you referred, Jane, is wonderful. Is there any source that would list some of the very early churches that would have existed around the 1790s or mid 1700s, since birth and marriage records around that period seem to be missing in my particular research. Thank you in advance for any assistance. Phoebe Jane McCANN Walsh wrote: > Hi, Jean and all, > Last Winter I took one of my steps
