Okay researchers, got a question, if you wanted to track down
information on the land that a courthouse is sitting on, would I do a
normal land search, or does courthouse/public buildings have a
different method for searching public land. I want to learn more about
the courthouse burning and where the land came from etc. Thanks Shelley
I am searching for any COLBY family descendants from the family of Ephriam
Colby and Catherine Gift who were married in Chambersburg, PA circa 1810.
They had one son George Colby, born about 1812 and died 30 Sep 1876 in
Fayetteville, PA. George Colby married Anna Fox prior to 1840. They had 9
or 10 children and lived their lives in the Fayetteville area. Anna and
George Colby are buried in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in
Fayetteville.
I would like very much to locate a living descendant of this c

I hope that someone can shed some light on these two people.
I have copies of 2 letters that George penned in Jan. 1897 from the Roadside area of Franklin County----- probably Washington Twp.
He talks about the illness and death of Sallie his wife. He also mentions that there are children being cared for by the family.
I know that George married Elsie Sheely about 1899 and had 3 sons. But the other children are not mentioned on the 1900 census.
I am mainly hunting Sallie's maiden name and family, so tha
Hello Gary,
I checked the Index to the 1800 Census of Pennsylvania and found the
following. This is only an index listing the head of household.
SHEDRONE, Jacob in Adams County
SHETRONE, There are two Johns in Adams County
SHETRENE, David in York County
There is no entry for SHEDRON/SHETRON
Adams County was formed from York County in 1800.
Checking the Index to the Probate Inventories of York County, PA 1749-1850:
SHETRONE, Abraham left a will dated 1759
Henry 1772 of Shrewsbury Township
To Joyce,
Thank you again for searching the records for information about Thomas
Springer Bronston. I do have Ancestry, but not the One World Tree
records. However, you can get a little information from a few letters. I
have the records about the Bronston family after Thomas came to Kentucky.
I have not checked other states although some researchers think he may have
come from Massachusetts or Delaware. However, all the records about him
show his being born in Pennsylvania. We have the cemetery

Pat,
If George and Sallie were married in Frankin County, and
IF they were married after Sept 1885, then you may want to
order the microfilms of the marriage dockets available thru
an FHC (Family History Center).
Marriage license dockets, v.1, Oct. 1885- Sept. 1886
Marriage license dockets, v.2, Sept. 1886- July 1887

I have photocopies of the full pages for part of Fannett Twp in 1800. If the person who was asking about the numbers will resend the query, I will check the names against what I have. I can tell you that the pages are all mixed up, with the townships mixed together in some places and incorrectly labeled in others. Many pages have no numbers, and those that do are not always in order - at least this is true of the copy on microfilm at Kittochtinny Historical Society and the copy at National Archives in Wa
Roger,
There are lots of Sollenbergers buried in Franklin County. However,
you are probably looking for the New Guilford Brethren In Christ Cemetery,
which is at the intersection of PA 997(Mont Alto Rd.) and Legislative Rte.

What sources of information are there for marriages in the 1840's in
Franklin County? My ancestors, George GIPE and Elizabeth BARNCORD were likely
married sometime between 1840 and 1845, most likely in Franklin County. Their
first known child was born in January 1846. There is a George GIPE in the 1843
tax list, shown as married. Since he was born abt. 1809 and Elizabeth was
born abt. 1823, I've considered the possibility that Elizabeth was not his
first wife.
The parents of George GIPE ar

Thelma,
There may be a connection to John Chamberlan who appears
in the 1843 tax list. He's in Lurgan Twp, taxed on 10 acres and 1 cow.

I wonder if there is a relation between your Stauffers/Stovers and the Rev
Caspar Stoever, Sr, the first pastor of the Reformed Church at Gemanna
Virginia (early 1700s). His son, Caspar Stoever, Jr, was later pastor in
Lancaster County, PA after Caspar Sr died on a return voyage from Germany to
raise funds for the church in America. The "v" is pronounced like "f" in
German.

All censuses before 1850 listed only the name of the head of household, but
gave the number of males and females categorized according to age. The
categories changed over the decades. In 1800 (as in 1790), the ages were
under 16; 16 to 45; and over 45. In slave states, the number of slaves was
also included on a separate schedule.

I know that Price's Church was Church of the Brethren, but I'm not sure
where the records would be now. They aren't Brethren anymore, I think they
are Trinity Fellowship now. Where the old records are.... I don't know.

Shelly etal,
Too late! The Pres signed it yesterday. Our letter writing was completely
disregarded. Now genealogists will have to try to get it amended to fix the
problem. Perhaps the states will figure that the rule obviously only applies
to living people anyway. We'll have to wait and see.
