Hi Jan, Hamilton Twp is in the center of the county and to the west of Chambersburg. Fort Loudon is in Peters Twp which is on the western border of the county about one-third of the way up from the southern border. Hi, Does anyone out there know what townships are contained in Fort Loudon, PA (if any).. I don't have access to any maps detailed enough to tell me, and I would like the information to make searching the 1860 census a little easier. I was amazed to see that Franklin Co. has two microfilms for that census. Thank you all. Donna

My great(4)grandfather was Benjamin Tolbert (2 Feb 1795 - 13 Jan 1864). He moved to Franklin County from near Hagerstown, Washington Co, MD sometime prior to 1843 (when he appears in Quincy Township tax records). He married Malinda Hedge in Hagerstown on 20 July 1819, she died sometime around 1840. Benjamin remarried to Esther ______. Tillman Tolbert's (my great(3)grandfather's brother) Civil War pension application lists the following siblings: Sisters - Emily, Amanda, Henrietta, Adelaide & Rachel Brothers - Samuel, Hilary, Benjamin, & James It also cites that from 1850 - 1860, the family lived at Caledonia Furnace, Green Township (run by Thaddeus Stevens), in the 1843 Franklin County tax list, they were living in Quincy Township. Looking for information on a Barnabas Basil BIVENS who married Margaret "Peggy" DOYLE and resided in the area of Little Cove, Warren Township, Franklin County. Does anyone in Franklin County have any information on Matthias GIFT and his son George. There may have been another son, Adam. I understand that Matthias GIFT was one of the first settlers in the Grindstone Hill area of Franklin County and that he was one of the first members of the Lutheran Church there.
