Hi Joyce,
I am interested to know what Millers you are researching in Franklin Co.
I have tracked my Millers to Bedford Co, I believe. That part of Bedford is
now Fulton Co, Bethel Twp. My ancestors married into the McClelland family
of Franklin Co., so that is why I suspect that I could have Millers in
Franklin Co. also. Other names from that area are Stephens, Dickey,
Galloway, Criswell. My Stephens Family married into the Coon family in OH,
I believe.
I am specifically interested in George Miller o

Hi,
I find a relative, Charles M. STOCKHAM, who was only very briefly in the
Civil War in July of 1863,
became sick and was in the hospital at Green Castle, PA.
A couple of questions:
I assume this was Franklin County, PA?
What would have been the hospital at which he stayed?
Is there a cemetery in particular that would have been associated with the
Civil War and that hospital?
Thanks,
Vince Summers
Yes, Franklin Co., PA
Hospital? Not sure of that - they had many field hospitals at that
time. To my knowledge there was never any pernament/civilian hospitals
in Greencastle.
There are several cemeteries in the area associated with the local
churches. If you are referring to the Battle of Gettysburg, the
national cemetery is the only one associated with the Civil War in that
area. (Adams Co. is next to Franklin)

Does anyone have access to the Windows Tax of 1798. I didn't check if it was
available in book form. It was available on microfilm in the historical
society in Chambersburg, but I ran out of time on my last visit. I need to
check on the Rocks and Wests.

Meanwhile, I will be posting some Grove Funeral Home records late this
morning.

Yes, the southern boundary is the Famed Mason Dixon Line. While doing
research, you need to check with PA and Maryland records, especially if your
ancestor lived within 5 miles of the line. . The county in MD would be
Washington County. There is an archive site for Maryland,
www.mdarchives.state.md.us . There are lots of sites that tell the history
of the M-D Line, just use Google or some other search engine.

I could not find the name in "1843 Tax Records of Franklin County, PA" There is a Jacob in Guilford Twp and a John in Southampton Twp in the 1850 census index. You can check the 1860 yourself online at the Valley of the Shadow site http://valley.vcdh.virginia.edu/govdoc/census.html

Does anyone know if Emanuel Cemetery in Upper Strasburg is still functioning? I can't seem to find any information about it on the web. If so, do you have an address for it?
I have two relatives that were buried there and would like to find out if there are any more.

That means there's a good chance that Dorothy has remarried to her second

Hello,
I have been trying to figure out the meaning of parts of an indenture of
property in Franklin County. It is dated Jan 23, 1826 and is indexed as James
McKINNIE & James P McMULLAN to Josiah, Robert, & Adam McKINNIE.
It was apparently to resolve the estate of the late Walter McKINNIE who had
died intestate in 1806. His heirs were shown as -
wife: Jane (Neither she nor a representative signed the document therefore I
believe she was deceased by the time of this action.)
sons: Josiah, Robert, Ja
I would like to know as well. I have members who were buried in the cemetery
there, and believe they were all members of the church.

I'd appreciate it if someone could look up WALDSMITH/WALDSCHMIDT, John in any
tax list 1840-1860. I live in NC. When I visited Chaambersburg Library and
Shippensburg HISTORICAL SOCIETY, I did not have access to the list. They
lived in Letterkenny and Shippensburg areas. Thank-you Lois Waldsmith Gerhardt
Barbara -
Thank you so much for checking the Tax List for me for all the GIPEs listed.
I greatly appreciate your help!
For the record, and for those who may also be researching GIPE in Franklin
County, I've taken the info the Barbara provided and checked a combination of
online family trees and census records. I believe that the vast majority of
the individuals are descendants of David B. GIPE. This would include all the
individuals in Letterkenny Twp, with the possible exception of the
