I am looking for information on families with the surname HAGAN in
Pennsylvania around the years 1762-1763. I am specifically looking for the
family with a son named Francis HAGAN who was born June 1763. The earliest
record I found concerning Francis is his witnessing a marriage in Frederick,
Maryland in the year 1787. I am looking for his parents and siblings and I
have exhausted sources in Maryland. Consequently I am now looking in
cities/states with a port of entry for this family. I am also convinc
I am new to the list and fairly recent to my search into PA.
I have two questions:
1. Was there a place in PA referred to as ~New Erie~?...perhaps some place
that eventually changed names because of the Erie in Erie Co?
2. Was there any other place (other than the known Erie Co town, that
originally was known as Erie in PA and changed it's name?
To that question, I am wondering specifically about Northumberland,
Luzerne, Mercer, and Lawrence counties, but I am interested in wherever one

Shirley,
Birth and marriage records were not kept in PA until 1885 or so. The
only place you are going to find these kinds of records are going to be
at a church. So that is where you need to begin as well as making sure
that you have done all of your census records for each of the years.
Bridgewater Twp, was formed in 1805 while still a part of Luzerne Co,
PA. Today is it located in Susquehanna Co, PA and forms the area all
around Montrose, PA which is the county seat.

Julie,
I checked all of my reference books that might help you and could not find a
"new erie". So at this point I would look at the county histories for each of
the counties you are interested in plus Erie Co.
Another item that is going to be very important to you is what time period are
you talking about? If you don't know your county formed dates, go to the
USGenWeb site for PA and check it out.
Another thing is that if you don't have easy access to the "County Histories"
for each of your counties,
Phyllis,
One more thought is the City Directories. The Bradford Genealogy Society should have some of those or if not try contacting the "main" county library which will be located at the county seat for Bradford County. You might even be able to e-mail them and ask them to look it up there. meg

Try looking in York, and Lancaster Cos, PA. Many families from those
counties and eastward went through Frederick Co, MD either moving west
or south down the Valley of VA. meg

I'm interested in hearing from any Righter Family member. Particularly those that might be related to a branch of the family that moved to Maryland in the early to mid 1800's.
Maybe we can put some information together.

Hi, my name is Phyllis Funk. I joined this group just about a week ago. I'm wanting to locate a source of PA newspapers, particularly the Towanda Daily Review and/or the official county paper for Bradford County. I'm interested in 1907-1908.
I am also looking for information about a boarding house in Towanda somewhere between 1907-1916. It was run by Mae Eleanor and Peter Frey.
