14. Re: [INDIANA] What is IOOF? [1]
Lisa, That is the International Order Of Odd Fellows... It is a fraternal organization that was very popular in the past but now has greatly reduced membership in recent times.. (as has many of the similar organizations - Elks, Eagles, Lions, etc...) Most of these organizations had a particular charity that helped justify not only their existance but provided a reason that the men used to explain their belonging. Society today doesn't seem to have as much of the need for men to gather together in

One of their sons was a John Boring of whom I had not been able to positively identify. However, I have a John Boring married to a Rebecca Bartlebaugh who I have also been trying to identify. OK, this one is for the list. Can anyone verify for me that in the Caldwell History of 1880, the letter d that appears after some of the individuals means that person was deceased at the time the information was gathered. For example, is it safe to say the John Boring listed below died before 1880? Correct. The Old Sailor

I think it was also Tonkin who wrote that Patchin was sent down by his employers in New England to check out the timber in western PA. When he saw the vastness and quality of white pine he kept the news to himself and began to buy up land and lumber rights. And he managed it well. Can you tell me who authored the article in the Indiana Co. Heritage, Vol 2 and or how to obtain a copy? Thanks Marcia Fronk ----- Original Message ----- From: "KCW" To: Se
