Seeking information on this family of Scott Township:

Several days ago on one of the PA lists someone asked about recordkeeping and
archival supplies for photographs and old documents. The company listed
below is one that has pretty reasonable supplies and storage items. I have
not ordered from the company, but a friend has and I am getting ready to
order a few boxes to store pictures.

Dear Lackawanna county friends,
I have posted this message a couple times with no response. It may be
no one remembers the cemetery which interests me. I went there once
with my grandmother some thirty years ago, and it was a difficult hike
even way back then.
Anyway, I am looking for records of the Brookside Cemetery. My memory
is that we drove from Carbondale towards Scranton on Route 6. I believe
it was in Mayfield where we stopped and walked up a hill on the right
(west) side of the road. There w
IIRC, you'll have to go through the Scranton Public Library's Reference
Department for then. I think.
I'm looking, but I can find neither hide nor hair of my Scranton directory

Any help would be appreciated. Searching for information on Susan Moss, born
about 1850 in Germany. Came to the area about 1863. Had 14 children. Then
moved to Schuylkill Co with Joseph J. Sarto. Some of the children had Drexel
as last name. I am so very confused. I THINK GR GRANDMA "GOT AROUND". I
think she was always a MOSS, and lived with Drexel and then Sarto. Has
anyone researched any of these names?? Looking for these names in Luzerne,
Lackawanna, and Schuylkill Counties. If so PLEASE ge
Hi list members,
On my grandfathers marriage certificate it states that he was born
in Greenwood, Pa in 1880. His baptismal certificate is from St.
Joseph's in Minooka. My questions are:
1. Where is Greenwood and is it still there today because I
can't find it on a map? Was it incorporated into Scranton and when?
2. Is St. Joseph's still an active church in Scranton or
Minooka?
3. Was Minooka a separate town and is it part of Scranton
today? I can't find cen
Dick,
In case you don't realize this, the US Census enumerates all convent members,
with all their information, if you know where the convent is located. You
can use soundex for potential states to find her, or go right to the
microfilm schedule roll to the address of the convent, if you know it.
If the order is still in existence, the first place I'd go is the web. I
made a brief search and found:

page indicates the 1

Here is a story from 1910. "I well remember, being sent to our nearest
neighbor, nearly a mile away to borrow fire, carrying it home on a small
shovel. The first advance in this direction was a preparation in liquid form
kept in a small bottle and hung up on the side of the chimney. It used to
please me greatly to see father stick a pine sliver in this bottle and bring
it out on fire."
Now the question; what was int the bottle. Can anyone explain that to me?

following churches:
1. St. Catherine Cemetery in Moscow, PA

Is there a parish church associated with either cemetery?

Christina TEICHMANN was a midwife in the Scranton Pa area around the
1900. Her home address was 344 Maple St, Scranton. She is listed as a
midwife in the Scranton City Directories from 1905 - 1909.
I have a photo of her house in a family album, the caption states "Aunt
Teichmann's house 344 Maple St Scranton." I do not know if this "aunt"
is a real aunt or a family friend.

My grandparents moved up here from Scranton In 1939. My grandfather and my
father both worked in the Steel Miles. I have lived in Buffalo all my life
and was raised in Lackawanna NY. We have always heard growing up that before
Lackawanna Steel Mill arrived from Scranton, the town was called Limestone
Hill. It was because the Lackawanna Steel Mill employed so many and brought
prosperity to the area that the town was named Lackawanna in honor to the
Lackawanna Steel Company. I don't know exactly when, but
Hello all,
I just found this mailing list and was surprised to see someone from Melbourne, Fl. I live in Cocoa Fl. Small world.
I am researching the names TELESCA and SAMELA. I was told the Telesca's had a bowling alley on Drinker St. back in the 1920's and/or 1930's. It must of been a large building as there was also a store front and apartments on the second floor where some of the Telesca's lived. The three brothers also had a construction company called "The Telesca Brothers" I have a photo w
Just want to let you know that my sisterI ordered two more obit. from the
Scranton Lib. through the inter loan. And instead of sending the copy of the
obit. this time they send my sister the two 2 microfilm reels to look up the
two obit. My sister said it didnt cost a penny to get them, she has them
for a couple weeks..we are going to the FHC tomorrow. So the interloan lib.
does work.
We have gotten good results. You just have to pick the right newspaper that
the obit is in. Good luck everyone..Sandy fro
