Susan...Thank you so much for the 1873 map posted on the web site. It has been a great help. On the Taylor plot of this map, I see two properties with the name J. R. SAMUELS. Does anyone have any information on this person? Thanx. Joan in California

My great grandfather's, Wm. Henry HOSKING, witness for his citizenship papers was William J. DAY on 20 September 1873. Is this DAY name familiar to anyone? If I could find out about him, I might be able to find out more about my great grandfather. Dot Hosking Huntley

Maria, the woman at St. Thomas Church, has been extremely kind and helpful to me. She indicated that the marriage records there go back to 1863 but there is no index so everything must be searched. Also the baptismal records go to 1863 and the death records to 1893. Hi Gayle I noticed that at one time you lived in Scranton. Can you tell me if when you were there you remembered any Drugstores named Perkins. My Uncle Frank Perkins emigrated to Scranton from South Wales in 1914 with his new wife Annie . Family recollections are that he maybe ran a successful drug store. I would like to make contact with his descendants, but my efforts have proved unsuccessful so far and I am reduced to clutching at straws at the minute. Do you have any clues as to how I would go about tr

13. Re: [PA-LAC] Deaths on Railroad Tracks [0.983222]
1) Locomotives of that day were often lit by oil / kerosene lamps which gave off a poorer light than the electric lamp. 2) You could very easily be suprised at how quiet a steam engine running (coasting) down-grade can be, almost a whisper. My mother tells stories of how, as children, they would swim the New Rail Dam in Glendale near Moosic. They would often sit on the wall embankment formed by the tracks of the Wilkes-Barre & Eastern railroad to dry off after their dip. Often the only warning of a tra

Iva, My grandfather, Daniel Wert Kembel, is buried in City Cemetery in Wilkes Barre. There is no office there anymore and I am trying to find out where his wife, Julia Foulds Kembel, is buried. There is no marker for her near his grave (I was just up there in May) but I went to the Cemetery next door and they said records for City Cemetery are at the Public Works Department in Wilkes Barre. Would you be able to look up that name some time in Wilkes Barre? I would really appreciate it. I would assu

19. [PA-LAC] Minooka in IRISH AMERICA [0.983222]
The current issue of IRISH AMERICA magazine includes a picture and brief narrative (entitled Catherine's Family) of the Donnelly family in Minooka, PA circa 1910. The picture and narrative were provided by yours truly (shameless plug). It doesn't show much of Minooka, other than the side of a house, but I thought those of you with an interest in Minooka might find it interesting, as well as those researching the DONNELLY, MORAN, AND FLANNELY/FLANNERY families. IRISH AMERICA has a website but the pi

Hi , Does anyone know if it is possible to get a Social Security application on someone who never collected? I received my grandfather in-laws death certificate. Mary L. The only record I know of is the old street lists . They have them in the Scranton Public Library ,but they only go back so far. You may also try the Scranton Directories they list anyone who lived in Scranton & I believe they start in the 1800s MLK MCasey863@aol.com wrote: > Dear Friends, > > I've tried to locate a repository for old voting records in Scranton. 24. Re: [PA-LAC] Information on Bugno [0.983222]
Hello, I have ancestors who came from Moszczenica, including Ludwika Wronska, an aunt of my great grandmother who married a Franciszek Bugno in 1854. I have gone through the copies I have of birth, death, and marriage records from Moszczenica but I don't find the Bugno surname on any of them; none of my copies are for records for the years you mentioned. But I don't recall seeing many people with that name when I had the microfilm. There is a chance that your family is distantly related to mine.

Thanks for your message. I was curious about the unusual church name, but did not know its history. I found lots of mentions of ancestors--there were numbers of them from both sides of the family in Providence during the years of publication, so it was an adventure for me to discover this little paper.
