2. [PALANCAS-L] indentured servants [1]
We have a question and would appreciate any info any of you may have on the subject. Our ancestor arrived in Philadelphia in 1774. The next spotting of him was 1778 when he took the oath of allegiance in Lancaster Co. PA. He was on the 1779 tax list in Lebanon Township, Lancaster County listed as "inmate" which we understand means that he did not own land but worked on someone else land. Question: Does the "inmate" status suggest that he was or may have been indentured to the person that owned the land?

Although this is refering to "Boston", it contains numerous surnames of which someone on the list may be interested. Here is a petition from the town of Wrightsborough, Georgia concerning the Boston Tea Party. 14. [PALANCAS-L] Look up Lancaster/York Co area records [1]
Hi, I am trying to find out more about a York Co Pa family, who had 2 daughters listed in the records of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. This family lived in Codorus twp in the 1740's and I believe they may be the grandparents I am looking for although the name is badly mispelled. Gottfried and Eve MANCK had a daughter Eva Maria b. 1740 and another daughter, Maria Barbara b. in 1742 both listed in Christ Ev. Luth. Church. If someone has any early church, wills, or land record books I would appreciate
15. Re: [PALANCAS-L] Orphan's Court, Lancaster County [1]
As far as a published index, there is Will Books & Intestate Records, Lancaster County, PA 1729-1850. However, the index only includes the names of the deceased. Unfortunately, no one has published abstracts of the Orphans Court records 1758-1804 -- a very worthwhile project! Now, the Lancaster County Mennonite Historical Society has a wonderful card index of all Orphans Court records to 1804. They are indexed first by deceased and then by other surnames appearing within these records--an invaluable tool, b

17. [PALANCAS-L] Early Lancaster Moravian Graveyard [1]
I had been confused about this and now the light has dawned, partly, and I am posting this for anyone else in the same boat, and also a question at the end for anyone who is not. The early generations of my family were Moravians and lived in Lancaster town. Died there too, and most of them are listed in the 'Burial Book of the Moravian Church of Lancaster 1744-1821.' (which I have on a CD with a lot of other stuff). I recently went to Lancaster for the first time ever, and since there is no Moravian Chu
18. [PALANCAS-L] BASSLER - Lancaster Cemeteries [1]
Hi all, I'm new to the list and I'll bet this is a super active one considering the historical significance of the area. Yesterday I took a drive to Lancaster (from Rhode Island) and not knowing the area I took 501 south from 78. Though it may not have been the most efficient way to go, I'm glad I did. Some of the history and sights along that road were amazing to me and to see a few horse drawn buggies moving down the road even added to the effect. Sorry if this is getting long but I just had to get t
