And this? SLIPPERY ROCK TOWNSHIP Robert and John Burnside came from Ireland in 1817. Robert settled the place where Samuel Burnside now lives, and made the first improvements upon it. John Burnside was the first settler on the place now owned by John Fox. Mr. Fox has owned it since about 1836. -----Original Message----- From: Beverly [mailto:bcarter2@wi.rr.com] Sent: Monday, September 19, 2005 8:42 PM To: PALAWREN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [PALAWREN] Death Certificates >>Beverly, Why don't you put t

Official death certificates were not kept in Pennsylvania until 1905. You might be able to find something at the New Castle library. A death record or an obituary. -----Original Message----- From: Beverly [mailto:bcarter2@wi.rr.com] Sent: Monday, September 19, 2005 4:35 PM To: PALAWREN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [PALAWREN] Death Certificates Can anyone tell me what building in New Castle I would go to to obtain a death certificate for a person who died in Lawrence Co. in 1898? >>Beverly, Why don't you put the individuals name up here & Mercer list. Someone may have information that will help you. Bob McKeon << Good idea. I already know quite a bit about him, him being my great great grandfather. I do have an obituary for him. I was hoping that perhaps the death record would list his mother and confirm his father. He is James Burnside b May 1818 and d April 22, 1889 in Harlansburg, Lawrence Co., PA He was the h/o Catherine (Howe) Burnside b Sept 1859 and d Jan 1914. They

You'd probably find them at the new castle library. They have a big book that is a record of births and deaths. If you email them, they will probably do a search for you at a very reasonable fee. =) -----Original Message----- From: Beverly [mailto:bcarter2@wi.rr.com] Sent: Monday, September 19, 2005 5:33 PM To: PALAWREN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [PALAWREN] Death Certificates Thanks for the quick response. You probably have this... JAMES BURNSIDE Was born May 11, 1818, in Slipperyrock township, one mile and a half from Princeton. His father was Samuel BURNSIDE, deceased, who came to this country from Ireland in 1817. In 1868 James BURNSIDE came to Harlansburg and bought the hotel property from Michael and Henry JORDAN. Mr. BURNSIDE has thus been in the hotel business in Harlansburg for nearly twenty years. He was married in 1848 to Catherine HOWE, of Butler county and to them ten children were born, seven of

Can anyone tell me what building in New Castle I would go to to obtain a death certificate for a person who died in Lawrence Co. in 1898? I sent letters to 4 different places and they come back saying they do not have the information. I spoke to the Clerical Supervisor, Administrative Services/Death Certification Section, Division of Vital Records in New Castle and he couldn't tell me. The addresses I sent letters to are 430 Court St., 101 S. Mercer St., and to just the courthouse in New Castle. I have vi

If you are looking for the death records... you can get them into an LDS Family History Center. They are microfilmed. Seems like they start about 1892 or 3 and go until the 1905 change. (It has been a while since I did any lookups in them, so can't be precise.) Most children had parents listed, but most adults did not. Sometimes a spouse. You never know, though, until you check. They are alphabetical by first letter of the surname (all the A's, then the B's..) Lucy

I wanted to let you all know that I had better luck with a phone call yesterday. I reached a woman who quickly forwarded my call to the appropriate office and the woman there very kindly answered my questions. For $5, cash or MO, no checks, they will do a search. They have death records from 1893-1904, early birth records, I didn't write down the date, and marriage records from 1885. Of course there are no guarantees. Include a SASE for their use. The request should be sent to Helen Morgan, Prothonotary,

Thanks for the quick response. I do have death certificates for folks who died in PA as early as 1899 through 1905. They are not the certificates as are used today but rather a copy of information that was recorded in a large book and included name, date, cause of death, parents, plus lots more. And of course, many of the lines were blank. I obtained them by writing to the appropriate county courthouse. But I can't find the appropriate one in New Castle. Have you searched THE NEW CASTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY'S MARRIAGE/OBITUARY DATABASE? It has a number of BURNSIDE and even more AIKEN. Use: http://www.ncdlc.org Click on the SEARCH section under GENEALOGY on the left side of the screen. Then click on the MARRIAGE/OBIT database. I have found numerous marriage and obituary articles by using this site and then requesting them through the library's email. Mr. Chris Fabian and Ms. Beverly Zona at the New Castle Library have been wonderful to work with. ----- Origina
