What is the location of Jacob's (Howerter's) Lutheran church? The book by Dr. Schwalm indicates that is was in Upper Mahanoy Twp., Northumberland Co., but is now known as St. James Lutheran church in Pitman, Eldred Twp. in Schuylkill Co. Is this a case of a church being on a county line and rebuilding a few feet away puts it in another county, or has the location of the church been moved a few miles? I assume that any cemetery is in the original location.

I was pleased to discover that the Sunbury Daily Item website
(http://www.dailyitem.com/) now displays the full text of obituaries. You
can click on the obituaries link on the left side of the screen or go
directly to the obituaries at http://www.legacy.com/dailyitem/LegacyHome.asp.
The current day's list of names appears on the screen; highlight a name and
click on "display", or just double click on the name, to show the full
text. You can click on the calendar to see the list for an earlier date.

Mr. Sulouff,
Thank you! This looks very promising. At least we now have contact

Any guidence would be very appreciated, as to where to go for documentation for this family.

Tim,
What records from the Court house are you looking for? I know for a fact all
the marriage license books are there and intact. I made copies of marriage
licenses from the 1800's. Will's from 1901.

You are exactly right. The original location of the church and cemetery was in Upper Mahanoy Township. The church burned down about 1943 and was rebuilt a few miles down the road in Pitman and was renamed St. James.

From what I read - some of the office equipment was damaged - but it wasn't
really a flood - it was a broken water pipe in the ceiling (they were
working in the judges chambers above the register and recorders office.)
