Karen, I did a little further checking to see what I could come up. First
let me tell you that brother John is not living with Charles in 1910. The
census index shows a 17 yo brother John, but i don't see him in the actual
record. I think the index is wrong. You will find the family in the 13th
Ward, ED 180 Visit 106. The addresss is in the 505 N 7th Street. Charles
is a coroker having been born in PA with both parents in Germany. His wife
was born in MA. Their two oldest children, John and
Barbara,I had the same problem and called a nearby parish, they told me what
church had the records.
I would try directories to find the address and a good map to find the
parish.at one time there was a web site called parish finder,i don't know
the web address but you put in the zip code and it gave you the parish.
Good luck,margaret

Hi Mary,
I worded the request incorrectly. It was the 29th ward I found him in the
1900 Census at 1541 Opal Street. Just curious to the section of the city.
Thanks everyone for the response.
Stacey
Hi Stacey,
There is both N. and S. Opal Street. You really must know which one you
want. 1541 N. Opal Street is located in Ward 47. The boundaries of that
ward: Poplar, Broad, 23rd St. and Montgomery Ave. It is North Philadelphia
and I suppose the neighborhood has a name. Perhaps someone can tell us.
Thanks so much.
Sandy

While I cannot expound ad nauseum about genealogical software for the PC

Sorry -- last one for now, I swear --

Lizzie and Philip moved to Collingswood, NJ and had several children; Minnie and Alex moved to Camden and then briefl
I would absolutely love to find out more about the records available at the Northern Home. I found my great-great grandfather in the 1880 census there. His father, Charles H. Townsend, had died in Andersonville Prison. Apparently Charles lived at home with his mother for a few years and then entered into the system, first going to a Children's Home in Chester Springs and then moving to the Northern Home. He wasn't orphaned as his mother and sister remained in the area for decades, though so I thought th

Has anyone ever heard of this place?

Betsy Ross was moved from Mt. Moriah some time ago....and since then the cemetary has deteriorated. Without an important person I guess it's not special enough to keep in good shape.
