RootsWeb is about to begin a period of beta testing in preparation for a
transition to a new and upgraded mailing list management and distribution

For list subscribers, the changeover should be smooth. The changes primarily
involve the administration tools that keep the list running behind the

Thank you so very much for taking the time to send me all this information.
I will keep your email for future use. I knew from reading former emails that
there was a library in Phila. that did this but could not for the life of me
remember which one.

If there is a possibility of your ancestor being Catholic you could request
a lookup from PAHRC. You will find a form at their website.1829 and earlier
would mean searching just four parishes.

Hi Paul,
I'd opt for widow (the first and last letters look the same --- ie: W)

I have sent an email to the GAR, but thank you for helping. His name was Samuel B. Henderson. I am away from home and my records so I can not give you his units at this time. He lived all his life in Philadelphia. His last address was Talbott St. He worked for Cramps shipyard as a joiner and received a pension from the US gov't as did his wife Elizabeth after his death. What I can recall is that he was a PA volunteer and enlisted several times. Thank you for your help - it is very much appreciated.

About a week ago I posted the message below to the list and then our
software testing got postponed until a bug could be fixed. The bug is now fixed and
tomorrow morning our list should be migrated over to the new software as
part of the testing process. So please reread the message below. Thanks!

You could try the Free Philadelphia Library at the following address. I
have had very good results with them with turnarould time between 4 days and
1 month. That's better than any other that I have found. You make a $1
donation after you get your info. I usually send more.
Here are just some of the newspapers that are archived at the Newspaper and

Sorry in advance for being a wee bit off-topic; this is more of a
general genealogy question.
A relative sent me her "family file", but it has no suffix and I cannot
make out which kind of file it is.
I have tried various suffixes, but none makes it possible to open the
file.
I sent it back to her so she could tell me what kind of file it is, but
she cannot open it either. She lost - all - her data due to a virus
from aol. She is on a pc. I am on a Mac.
Is there a way to make out which kind of file
I am trying to locate the grave of Joseph Townsend b. 19 Sep 1856, d. 1 Sep
1932. He is supposedly buried there with his first wife, Emma. A vital
records request produced no certificate of death, so I need to know if there
is an error in the dates I have or an error in where he lived at the time of
his death. I'm not sure where he was living at the time of the 1930 census.
If anyone comes across any helpful information, I would appreciate your
help.
Sincerely,
Laura

Business letters used to say "instant" when they meant this month, or
week, or day. There must have been gradations, but I do not know what
they were.

I have McCourt in Philadelphia, but arriving later than yours. Reportedly
from County Tyrone, but that is only hearsay.
I have Patrick McCourt, born about 1855 in Ireland (County Tyrone?) who
arrived in Philadelphia from Ireland in 1883. He married Mary McClain in
Philadelphia in 1886. They had a least five children, all born in
Philadelphia: John J., James Aloysius, Sarah M., Francis Patrick and
Catherine "Charlotte". I have extensive descendent information. Patrick's

Would folks have any guidance when it comes to looking for a record of
an 1883 Irish Catholic marriage that took place somewhere in the Philly
area?
In 1900 they lived at 1139 S 23rd, if it helps.
Thanks.
best,
Paul Carr
Thank you, who ever you are. I had forgotten I had asked the location.
Bless you. Ann
