6. Philadelphia Naturalization Records [1]
Hi, I'm a new subscriber and I'm looking for my great grandfather JOHN BARRETT who came to Philadelphia from England in the 1860s. I find him listed in William Filby's book, PHILADELPHIA NATURALIZATION RECORDS; ref. 974.811, an Index to court records. Problem is, I need to get a copy of the original document and I don't know how to get them. Does anyone know the address and the costs for the originals. Someone told me they were available from the Detroit Public Library but that's wrong. They don't
7. Continuing Confusion with Burial Information [1]
I've continued to try to learn why I keep getting conflicting bits and pieces of information about the death and burial of my mother's maternal grandfather, Ezekiel COHAN (aka: Hyman COHEN). According to his tombstone (which is in the name of Ezekiel COHAN), he died Jan. 13, 1899, in Philly. BUT, it seems that his death certificate (under either name) is not listed in the City Archives. According to the cemetery records, which are kept in chronological order, my mggf died Jan. 12, 1897. I've had several
8. Continuing Confusion about my mggf's date of death [1]
New information regarding my problems with locating the death records for my maternal great grandfather, Ezekiel COHAN (aka: Hyman or Haskell COHEN). I just got the translation of the Hebrew date of death inscription on his tombstone. It says that he died on the 8th day of Shevat in the year 5657. I went to the JewishGen calendar calculator online, and typed in that date. It equates with Monday, January 11, 1897. THAT makes sense when matched up to the burial records at Har Nebo Cemetery in Phila. Sin
9. Re: PHILADELPHIA NATURALIZATION RECORDS [1]
Hi, I find the records I need are at the Philadelphia City Archives but when I do a search for it on Cyndi's List, the URL she has doesn't work so I can't find the address. Does anyone have an address, website and/or phone number for this place. Thanks, Sandi

11. A note to the PA mailing list [1]
My aplogies for the lengthy roll call list for the decendents of my ancestors in my direct family line. Some may have been confused about that part. My intentions were to have lookups on two of my oldest ancestors in my list sent to you. The rest of the names were for private mailings to make contact, connect, exchanges, and updates for those responding to my roll call. It is clear that Isaiah McNEESE and Bloomer WHITE are the ones that we need to lookup because our genealogies stop there with those two and
12. Re: City Archives [1]
Gene- Concerning my comment about "City Arvchives not the easiest to work with", I was there last summer and had a most frustrating time with their new microfilm reader system. They were on timers where you put in a quarter for 15 minutes. After that the light goes off and you can't read your film anymore. Hope you brought another quarter! Also the workers there had missed the training on these new machines, so really couldn't help people figure them out. Then there was some kind of printing dev

14. GEN... Ivy Hill Cemetery [1]
I visited Ivy Hill Cemetery this afternoon and offer the following report for those who have interest: Ivy Hill is located about 5 blocks south of Cheltenham Ave. close to the Cedarbrook Mall and Holy Sepulchre Cem. I hadn't visited there in many years and was very impressed. The grounds were ablaze with azalea blossoms. The cemetery is well landscaped and shows no signs of deterioration or vandalism. There seems to be a rather high density of tombstones. The cemetery opened in 1868. There were thre

20. Philadelphia Archives [1]
RE: From: egstackhouse@mail.biosis.org In what way is the Archives not the easiest place to work with? I've only been to the Archives twice, once at the old building and once at the new one at 30th St. I found the gentleman archivist who works there extremely helpful, and also the woman who was working the day I visited the older building. But at the 30th Street building there was a girl who worked at reception desk who had a serious attitude problem. She let me stand at the desk while completely ignorin
