7. Re: [PARRY] New Year - March or January start [0.989663]
March 25 was called "Lady Day" in acknowledgement of the Annunciation to Mary. It was assumed that if Jesus was born on Dec. 25, the annunciation must have been on March 25. This date was also very close to the spring equinox which was the traditional time for planting to begin, and thus the traditional time for the new year to begin. Hi Barbara My mothers maiden name was PARRY. My ggf Matthew PARRY lived at Lickey Eye End Farm, Bromsgrove. Later on some of them moved into Birmingham. Perhaps you could take a look at our family tree for any possible connection. Twas not unusual for people to be a bit untrue about their age especially when they got married!!! Maybe this is the answer. Have you been able to trace her in a later Census ? 11. [PARRY] New Year - March or January start [0.989663]
Forwarded for information about the ENGLISH calendar change in 1752 (NOT JUST FOR QUAKERS). It deals with Quaker marriage records but explains that the beginning of a new year used to be March 25th in the entire English world. I have heard this before and I still don't quite understand it. I hope Paul Palmer does. Betty Pace From: "Paul C. Palmer" To: QUAKER-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com Date: Sat, 21 Sep 2002 12:04:01 -0500 Subject: Re: [Q-R] Important Note on Quaker Marriage Records, pleas

Did you know that: there are at least 25,646 PARRYs in the 1901 census? Also PARY - 136 PAREY - 46 PARIE - 8 PARREY - 76 And I've so far found 39 people recorded with double barrelled names involving PARRY (but some of them aren't 'genuine' - eg John Parry Jun 33 Lanc Prestwich Lancaster Broughton Dyers Townsman where the 'Jun' I assume is meant to be for 'Junior') In case you didn't realise, the census is available as a test site at http://www.census.pro.gov.uk/index.html (it doesn't seem to be restric

It's not unusual for ages to vary from census to census and when comparing census information with church or civil records. If the rest of the data makes sense, I think it would be safe to assume it is the same person.
