There were 2 newspapers at that time period that may contain the obituary.
They would be the Washington Reporter (on microfilm at Citizens Library,
Manderino Library) and the Washington Examiner (on microfilm at Washington &
Jefferson College). There are also books at Citizens Library containing
abstracts of these 2 papers but the books do not cover the entire 1800s.
There were Burgettstown (Smith Twp.) newspapers in the 1800s but the
earliest one did not publish until 1879. To my knowledge, these papers

into two streams on Henry Devore's property.
How wide (west to east) is the park? Does it go all along the creek?
John Devore is just to the east of Andrew Devour, I see Mingo appears to

In my search of the supply tax lists in Washington County, I have found them
to contain: acres, horses, cattle, and sheep followed by the value. It
appears the more one owned, the more he was taxed. Both married and single
men were taxed, though they are kept separate on the lists. A person was
taxed if he owned livestock, even if he didn't own land and vice versa. If
a man owned nothing, his name was on the list but no tax was levied. Hope
this helps.

Mary's 14 kids was a Robert who is shown as born in Dec. 1792. I have taken
this on the word of several others searching these same lines as being fact. If
it is fact though, I can't figure the 1790 ce

I tried to read a headstone in an old cemetery today in West Findley
Township. I think it said Mary w/o Samuel IVERCOMBRIE she died 1866.
Has anyone ever heard of this surname? Does anyone have the 1860 census
for West Findley Township that can look up the name for me? It might
even be in Greene County, Pa., since the cemetery sits on the county
line. Thanks Karen

I research records at the Washington County Courthouse. I'd like to let
everyone know what it entails.
For Wills, first you go to the will index to get the volume and page number.
The will books are in the basement in the vault. The books are very large,
about 18 x 24 inches and 4 inches thick. They are very heavy. Some are up
high and others are low, so sometimes you have to climb for them. After
finding the will, you climb 2 flights of stairs to a photo-copier which
charges 25 cents per sheet. The
