Hello List Members: I am new to the list and thought I would post my Penny line. My Penny line is very limited and my source is also. This information came from someone researching a different line and told me the source was: The Perry County Historical Society Heritage, 1986 page 87, "The Penny Family, from Lincoln County, North Carolina." The Perry County Historical Society is in Perryville, Missouri. I will be getting in touch with them to get a copy of the above issue. WILLIAM PENNY born ? died?
12. [PENNY-L] Pennys of Lincoln Co., NC [1]
Hi, I'm new to the list. The most recent Penny in my husband's family was his fourth great grandmother, Mary Penny. She married Joel Doss in 1796 in Lincoln Co., NC. She died sometime after 1831, probably in Greene Co. or Tuscaloosa Co., Ala., where her children lived. Her father was William Penny. His will was probated in Oct. 1818 in Lincoln Co. I do not know when or where he was born. He had a wife who died after giving him 8 children, then he married Abigail Bryant in 1798 and may or may no

17 March 1999 Hi Lise-- I enjoy identifying the sources of my information about my family line, and am interested in finding new cousins. First of all, several cousins who are in the DAR traced William PENNY (1751-1821) from the PENNY family living in IL 1810 on--to the Wm living in NC during the Revolutionary War; he served in a miitia unit as a Cavalry Captain and was in some skirmishes following the British victory at Camden, SC. Mecklenberg Co. is an old county, and was later split into other counti

16. Re: [PENNY-L] Wm PENNEY in Lincoln Co., NC [1]
Hi Lise-- While I don't claim any angels in my line (after all, my wife is not related to me (!)), I believe there were two William PENNY households in the Salisbury District of the 1790 census--one in Rowan Co., & the other in Mecklenburg Co.(mine). And I don't think this Rowan Co. WP is the same as your WP in Lincoln Co. The WP arrested is, I believe the same who did not originally give a loyalty oath (i.e. he favored continued rule by King George). In the 1790 cs, his household consisted of himself (mal

Hi Bill, Thanks for the will information. I appreciate that you're still thinking of my confusing predicament! Just as I was logging on I was thinking I should write to you. I have, in addition to all the deeds and the will which belong to your Penny family, record of William being put in jail for bankruptcy in 1792 in Mecklenburg Co. Mine lived in Lincoln Co., but since the borders were so fluid back then, I'm wondering, is this your guy or mine - or a third? I saw that at about that time in that ar
20. Re: [PENNY-L] Pennys of Lincoln Co., NC [1]
Hi Bill, Well, this is something to think about. I think the William Penny born in 1751 could be my guy, since he had a daughter who married in 1796. Where did you find his birth date? Where in Pennsylvania did they come from? Do you know when and where he married Elizabeth? I'd like to look in those areas for more details, since I live near a fairly good library. Thanks, Lise >From: bill Penny >Reply-To: PENNY-L@rootsweb.com >To: PENNY-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [PENNY-L] Pennys

25 March 1999 Hi Cousin Suzanne-- We are related; in fact I have the name & address of a cousin--closer than I am-- via George Bunn. About two years ago, I had a researcher hunt for the parents of Wm PENNY (1751-1821), among all the other PENNY households in NC at the time. The most likely parents were William & Eliza PENNY, probably originating in PA. and following the popular migration path of the Scot-Irish. The result of this is outlined below: William PENNY (ca 1709 in N. Ireland?--1761 in NC) m. Eli
22. Re: [PENNY-L] PENNY in Mecklenburg Co., NC [1]
Hi Lise-- There were indeed many WPs in the area. I did have prior information on your 1798 PENNY marriage, but when I looked earlier I could find no other connections for what looks like your husband's PENNY line. There is bound to be someone else out there looking for the same people. Bill >Hi Bill, >It looks pretty clear to me that there are two William Pennys living in >the area at the same time. Hi Bill, It looks pretty clear to me that there are two William Pennys living in the area at the same time. Who would have thought! Unfortunately I think most of my data is for your WP, not mine. How to tell which is which? Still, I think it's quite possible that they are related. Do you know if Alexander or John had a son named William? I know mine stayed in NC and died there in 1818. Hi Lise-- There were many PENNY families in NC & VA. The Wm & Elizabeth that you mention are believed to be my ancestors, but in my records I can find no connection to Wm and Abigail in Lincoln Co. Household (1) below is is believed to be Wm & Eliz of Mecklenberg Co. that you refer to. CENSUS 1790 SALISBURY DISTRICT, MECKLENBURG CO. (1) WP Household---1 male 16+ 3 males 16- 4 females NO slaves SALISBURY DISTRICT, ROWAN CO. (2) WP Household---1 male 16+ NO male 16- 4 f
