Hello,
Does anyone know anything about divorce in Scotland at
the turn of the century? How common they were, how
long they took?
I ask because I have a relative who married in 1898
and on both his and the wife's death certificates it
says they were divorced. Which is fine and dandy
until I found that he had married (for a third time!)
by declaration in 1902.
This seems a very quick turnaround even by modern
standards and I was under the vague impression that
divorces back then took a lot longer - I kno

Hello listers,
This is my first email to this list, so please bear with me.
I am researching the family of Dingwall, who lived at Strelitz, and whose
children were baptised at Cargill.
Children born to John:
1. John born 1801,
2. Alexander born 1803
3. Daniel born 1805
On John and Daniel's death certificate it states that their mother was
Barbara Mckenzie, no marriage has yet been found.
1. John Married Isabella Caldwell (Father - Thomas) and migrated to
Australia under the Bounty Scheme in 1838 on
Just a short note to let you know there is a problem with the submission

in the next day or so.

Hi there
I'm new to this list, researching SHEPHERD & STEWART in the Perthshire area
I don't have much to go on yet, other than my great-grandparents names
My grandfather was Donald Scott Stewart SHEPHERD, born 11 April 1930 in Dunkeld. He sailed with the Royal Navy, and married Beryl Etheridge in South Africa in 1954. After living in Scotland and England, they returned to SA in 1960, with the first 2 of their 4 children.
His mother was Isabella STEWART, who I believe was unmarried at the time of his birt
I have a relation George Forman (1780-1855) who started his army career in
the Royal Perthshire Militia and ended up in the 56th Regiment of foot as a
Captain. I have a cameo silhouette of him (I don't think he is in uniform).
I also have a half length oil painting of a "gentleman in a green coat and
white vest in oblong frame (probably first half of 19th century)". The
latter is wearing an oval brass coloured badge near his right lapel which
looks like two swords crossed with a crown above and what
I hope someone can provide some descendents of this individual.
Thomas CAMPBELL b 3 Sept 1872 Blairgowrie, Perth s/o Betsy Constable MITCHELL and David CAMPBELL
There marriage took place 19 Apr 1972 in Blairgowrie.
Any help gratefully received.

I am stuck going back on both sides.
Can anyone help??
Yours sincerely,
David

Dear Kay
Thank you for your kind offer.
Could you please look up PETER FISHER born in 1825 in Killin son of
DUNCAN FISHER and MARGARET MCARTHUR and his parents.
Peter married CATHERINE MCDIARMID in Callendar in 1852. Her bans were
called in the parish of FORTINGAL so could you please look her up.
Many thanks
Barbara

Sorry can't help you with your family, David. However, did appreciate the
poem. It certainly spurs one on in the never ending search for ancestors. Good
luck with your research, Dorothy
Cathy,
You need to consult the annual valuation rolls. These are held at Perth &

I've just joined the List, but I'm on the Northumberland/Durham List as well.
I was born in South Shields, but now live in Sunderland.
My gt. gt. g/father was Daniel Macdearmid who was born in Killin, then married Maria Watson in the parish church St Hilda South Shields in Sept 1815.
This couple went on to produce 7 dtrs and 6 sons.
The surname changed to McDearmid & still remains so to this day.
Daniel became a Master Mariner and he is shown as retired on the 1851 and 61 census at So. Shields, but in 10 y
