Why not introduce yourself? I 'married into' a Filipino family from Luzon Province, Pampanga. Surnames being researched are: Pabustan, Deang, Bengco, David, Cochon, Lacson, and Galang. Most are from
7. [PHILIPPINES-L] Re: Anything going on here? [1]
Hi, Not yet I'm afraid. The list is very new and not many members yet. As of today, I can count only five including myself. I started it because I'm starting to explore my wife's genealogy and was surprised that there was no online forum for discussing Filipino genealogy. My mother-in-law is here and I'm hoping to get some info from her in the next few months. :) I was also surprised to find subscribers so quickly, since it isn't listed in Rootsweb yet, at least that I've found. It is small now, but as it
8. [PHILIPPINES-L] NACINO - RAMOS - BARBA (San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte) [1]
I am also new to this new list. I have been researching my own family history for several years now (mainly European). My wife's father came from San Nicolas in Ilocos Norte, Philippines. We visited there together in 1982 and learned some basics about her Filipino ancestry several generations back, but I would like to learn more for our two boys' future benefit. One interesting fact we learned when in the Philippines was that my wife's great-grandfather was evidently a Spanish don, Marcelo Barba, who se
9. [PHILIPPINES-L] Hello [1]
I subscribed to this list recently. I am searching for David Macariola, a former Philippine Airline Pilot. He lived in Manila, and in Honolulu when on layovers on flights. He has daughter Debbie. He would be about 70 years old now. I have some very important information for him. Any help will be appreciated. Have found some interesting Philippine site connections: www.geocities.com/Hearland/Ranch/9121 www.genealogy.com/links/w/p/w-philippines.html Martha

11. [PHILIPPINES-L] names I'm researching [1]
Hello! My husband is of Filipino descent, and I'm hoping to flesh out his family tree as I work on my own. His father's family is from Makati Manila, and his mother's family is from Bacnotan, in Ilocos. The surnames I'm researching (so far) include REYNALDO, INOCENCIO, RODRIGUEZ, ISIDRO, and MANUEL in Manila; and PARADO and ALMINIANA in Bacnotan. General Pio del Pilar, the national hero from Makati, is my father-in-law's great-grand-uncle. I am hoping that this list will grown to include many people wi
12. Deocampo [1]
Hi listers! I also "married in" to a Filipino family. They are from Iloilo City in the Iloilo Province, Visayas. Surnames are: Deocampo, Jiminez, Decologne. These are all I know so far. Nothing written. They were mainly from Iloilo City, Dumangas, and Manila. Anyone connect? Melody Harrison Deocampo Living in NY, USA
13. [PHILIPPINES-L] Need Inspiration on "How To" [1]
Hello everyone! It's been a month or so since I subscribed to this list and so I know it is pretty quiet. My paternal grandfather came from the Philippines to Hawaii, I think sometime around the 1920s. My family only knows his father's name (although I think our last name is spelled incorrectly) and where in the Philippines he was born. I'm almost positive he came over by himself. But, I didn't want to just post the names and dates I have, hoping someone had information, since I think that is unlikely.
14. [PHILIPPINES-L] LDS & Philippine Records [1]
AS I remember from a few yrs back, the LDS has 225K Philippine birth & marriage records. None are on line as far as I know. Call your closest LDS Genealogy Office. They are free access for the basic microfilm use. Its listed under Church of the Later Day Saints in phone book I think. Liook for Family History or Genealogy listing. Dick
15. [PHILIPPINES-L] begin with what you know & work back [1]
Melissa, Yes, it is much more difficult to research our Filipino ancestors than some of our other lines. Part of the migration pattern for Filipinos was to Hawaii and then often to ports like San Francisco and Seattle. The local National Archives ( San Bruno is my local branch) is a good starting point to find the ship, then passenger lists when your grandfather arrived. People often traveled in family groups or at least people from the same region travelled together. My grandfather, Henry Garci

17. [PHILIPPINES-L] Posting guidelines [1]
List Members, It has come to my attention that one list subscriber has sent an inappropriate and unacceptable personal attack to another list member. I am not mentioning any names here, and I have been pleased with the activity on the list today. Posts of genelogical methodology relating to research into Filipino genealogy as well as inquiries are more than welcome. I have warned the offending party that such conduct will not be tolerated and such attempts to stifle appropriate discussion on the list in th

Hey there Melissa If you go to www.Cyndislist.com and click Asia and then Philippines there is an address to their Vital Statistics Records. My mom is from Manila, Philippines and does not have much on her own family. I sent an e-mail requesting my grandfather's birth certificate and the lady in charge e-mailed me back promptly and told me the cost of the certificate. So, if you have a name and place, start there and go back. If you know of any living relatives write to them, I did and even thro they

22. Euphemia S. Paxton and J.R. Hewitt -- Thomasite Teachers [1]
My ggreat-aunt Euphemia S. Paxton was on the USAT Thomas that arrived Manila, The Philippines in August 1901. I would like to learn about where she taught while there and how she lived among the filipano people she was there to teach. I understand that not all "Thomasites", as they came to be known, deported themselves appropriately amongst the filipanos. I hope to learn that she was one of the good ones. From what I have pieced together, she married while there -- to a J.R. Hewitt. J.R. was also a tea

25. [PHILIPPINES-L] Beginning Genealogy - How do I start? [1]
Genealogy has become the number one hobby in the United States. For someone that is just beginning the journey into the past, the road can seem a bit confusing. The following outline is a map of the steps a beginner can take to become familiarized with the terrain. There is an abundance of books written on the subject, however it is always good to get the big picture before digging into the details. These are just a few ideas to get you started on where and what to look for. Get folders and organize them by
