Smith Playground is in Fairmount Park, on the west side of the Schuylkill.
My husband, by the way, spent part of a summer as a deckhand on the
Wilson Line. I have been on it a couple of times while in high school
-- we went to Wilmington and back. I have also been to the park that
they went to (whose name I forget.) Another relative who worked on
the boats that were successors to the Wilson Line said the park was
serviced by the West Deptford Fire Department. I can't find it on maps,
thoug.
What location was Smith? I just remember Newt's in Fishtown across Front Street at about Norris.

Remember them? I have an extra copy of the book, "The Last of the
Steamboats: The Saga of the Wilson Line". Contact me off-list if
interested.

I remember the boat and the park. Whitman's Chocolates used to have a picnic and a cruise there every year. My greataunt Margaret who worked at Whitman's for years took us and every year she bought me one of the dolls they sold on the boat. They were all in mymother's basement when she moved and I never did see them again. UM???
I vaguely remember the park - a carousel I think. But the boat fascinated me so that is quite clear in my memory. Thanks for jogging that one to the front Larry.
