For Robin,
I have two wives for Elijah Peyatt, too. Elijah's first wife was Mary A _____. Their divorce is of record in the courthouse in Summersville WV. I saw the document a few years ago when we had Piatt Conference in Elkins WV but did not make a copy. The document is a humdinger and a must for any researcher interested in this line. I believe the divorce occured prior to the end of the Civil War, but that is from memory, and could certainly be wrong. As I recall Elijah filed for divorce, but Mar
For Joleen,
We believe Harriet Piatt Goshen to be the daughter of Stephen Piatt and Mary McConnell who were married in Muskingum Co OH on 29 June 1813 by Joseph Tharp. But Stephen's origins, other than "b in VA" in census records are unproven. At that time "VA" could have been Augusta Co, Loudoun Co, Ohio Co or anywhere in between.

Volume 9 of the Piatt Family Newsletter, 1994, shows this couple as John Piatt, son of Jacob Piatt and Eleanor Allen, and Mary Truax, daughter of Isaac Truax and Rebecca _____.

For Laura and Robin:
First, I think the Benjamin and Mary Truax Piatt given as parents for Lorenzo in his obituary is a mistake. Lorenzo died in 1968, 71 years after his father. The informant on the death certificate just mis-remembered, in my opinion. The same thing happened in my husband's line when Sarah Piatt Drum, d/o James Piatt Jr, died in 1912. She died 72 years after her father and the informant named her older brother William (who had likely become the man of the family upon father James' dea

There are yet more Lorenzo Piatts than we had thought. I've been browsing Heritage Quest census records online--1860, 1870, 1890 what there is of it, 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930. Heritage Quest does not have 1850 and the 1880 at familysearch.org is unavailable for maintenance. But here is what I found:

John James Piatt was a poet of some renown during his day, but he kept his day job and was counsul to Ireland for a while. His wife Sarah Morgan Bryan Piatt was also a published poet. Her work is seeing a renewed interest and one or two scholarly books have recently been published about her. She was related to Daniel Boone through her father Morgan Bryan, if I remember correctly. Daniel Boone's wife was Rebecca Bryan.
This might be a good place to mention that the Worthington Papers, also held by the O
The link to the Monroe Co OH OGS website for the picture of Rebecca Allen Piatt doesn't work for me. The site comes up but the picture link is broken. This is the same situation I've had with the pictures of my husband's line which were posted at that site two years ago. I've tried both computers at home, Mac and PC, and the library computer, too. Nothing opens these pictures for me, even though all the pictures used to open. Was anyone successful in opening the Rebecca Allen Piatt picture?

I am definitely interested in the conference next June. I am stuck with Harriet Piatt Goshen wife of Henry Goshen (grandparents) and their son John Wesley Goshen or John Wesley Piatt Goshen. They lived in Zanesville, Muskingum, Ohio.
Any help would be appreciated. Hugs, Jolene Keeley

Some of you may recall that when the Piatt list was new the reply button was set to send the reply back to the list for everyone to see. This was great as it kept discussions on-list for everyone to read and for the benefit of future researchers who would find the information by searching the list archives.
Other lists I have been on are absolutely worthless because their reply buttons from the beginning were set to send the reply to the poster and not to the list. Consequently, the list archives are emp

For Robin,
I agree that the DNA results indicate that John S Piatt was not the biological son of William and Mary Smith Piatt. But that does not rule out the possibility of John S Piatt being their grandson through an older daughter. John S Piatt was a part of the family as shown by census records and the fact that John and Mary Snider's marriage record gives his parents as William and Mary Piatt.
Also, it's possible that John S Piatt was "taken in" by William and Mary Smith Piatt for still unknown reas
