In New Jersey there were a number of marriages between the Piatt and the
Manning families. Jeffrey Manning, son of Captain John Manning, was the
first of the Jersey families. He married Hepzibah Andrews. Jeffreys
father, Captain John Manning, was married to Abigail Maverick. I have seen
on a Piatt web page the mention of Captain John and Abigail.
Is there someone on this list that has any documentary evidence of Jeffrey
being the son of Captain John? If so, I would appreciate corresponding with
you.

We are looking for a Carl Pyatt (or anyone connected with him) who may have
lived in or around Ravenswood, West Virginia. I believe it was in Putnam
county. The years may have been around 1935-1937.

Hi Laverne,
I thought I replied to you, but I don't see anything in my "sent basket."
Anyway, I have reviewed Monnet's books many times and agree with most of
what he says. Based on a lot of research I fully agree with him on Captain
John Manning being the father of Jeffrey Manning. I have also checked the
Piatt list. From there I noticed Captain John Manning. However, I forget
who it listed his wife as, but at that time it wasn't listed as Abigail
Maverick. Someone may have corrected it by now. I mig
Thank you for the reply. I do have access to that book. I am now looking
for someone that may have more documentation of the relationship between
Jeffrey and Captain John. I also have found the Piatt site.
Thanks again.

Susan Piat, listed on the Kosciusko County, Indiana, 1860 census (link

I am looking for information on two members of the Piatt Family:
1. James Wallace Piatt, born Feb. 1850 in Pennsylvania. He died in Miami,
FL at an unknown date. Much of his life was spent in Pittsburgh where he
operated Piatt's Restaurant and Saloon at 248 Fifth Ave.
James was married at least 3 times. He married Lizza McLaughlin (which was
mis-spelled in the 1880 census as "McGlochland"). They had one one by the
name of John Newell Piatt (b: Jan. 1874 in Pittsburgh). James was also

Hi, Robin --
James Piatt (born 1704 Piscataway NJ, died 1779 Middlesex Co., NJ, will)
was the son of Thomas Piatt (1681-1705/6) and Mercy Hull
(1683/4-1746). James was married in 1727/8 in Middlesex Co., NJ, as the
second husband of the widow Ruth FitzRandolph Drake (bc1706, d1776); both
are buried at the Piscataway Baptist Church. Ruth's first husband had been
Joseph Drake (b1703); their son was Joseph Drake (Jr.)
(1726-1803). According to my notes, following are the children of James
Piatt and R
Hi Robin,
Yes, I remember reading the story and it seems to me that the tombstones were
preserved, but again, I do not recall what they did.
Old Hadley is near Rutgers University and near the old army base across from
the Raritan River. I might have the story at home but I am now in Florida
for the winter.
Dick Piatt, PA.
For Frank:
I have a number of pages of information on early settlers of Woodbridge and
Piscataway NJ photocopied from the works of Orra Eugene Monnette. "Jeffry
Menning" is one of the early settlers. Capt. John Manning is listed, too.
Usually Monnette is the first work consulted by anyone researching this area.
Perhaps you have already done so, but if Monnette's work has not been available
to you I would be happy to check what little I have and share with you off-list
unless it involves Piatts.
I'm a little slow on the uptake these days but finally realized that the 1880
census is online at
http://www.familysearch.org
A spelling specific search for Piatt turned up 1045 hits. My husband's
grandfather was #1024, of course, but at least the census taker caught him. A
search for Pyatt produced 652 hits, for Pyeatte 38. I forget how many hits for
Pyeatt, Pyott, Piott, Piate, etc. A spelling specific search keeps other P300
names like Pate from turning up.
I thought it might be of interest
You are correct about the Jacobs! There are two, possibly three, in my
direct line. Thanks for the response. Happy Holidays!

Just a short note (the recovery is sure exhausting!) to say a big thank you

So again, Thank You to everyone! I just wasn't up to individual email thank
