For anyone interested in this Tabitha, her birthdate was Feb 10 1828, and she died 1891. She had 11 children, 9 were still living at her death. My cousin got this much from her obituary. Family lore says she was part Cherokee. The Berry family history gives her name as Tobitha Aloiria Piatt,

It appears that your Tabitha Piatt Berry was the daughter of Stephen Piatt and his wife Mary McConnell. The Piatt Family Newsletter, Volume 4, 1989, published this 1850 census with approximate birth years added:
1850 Marion Co OH, p 44
Prospect Twp, 328/331

Jean, where was your Tabitha/Abitha Piatt in the 1860 census? If you could post that information I could check what records I have to see if we can learn more about her. And when and where in Kansas were she and husband Peter Berry?
And if I may add something to the discussion of Indian blood, poss

Waccamaw area tend to all be interconnected.
I'm still unpacking the office and am trying to figure out what I need
