Thank you Laverne for your response regarding William Piatt and John Nelson Piatt. I have compared the information to what few documents I have and my husband's sketchy recall. John Nelson Piatt's death certificate lists his date of birth as September 26, 1850. Information provided by one of his sons. John's tombstone lists his birth as 1846. There is a GAR marker at John's gravesite. John Nelson and Tacey Jane (she used her middle name) had 10 children. First child William (Bill) J. born May 1880

For Carolyn in the deep south, Well, there is plenty of variance in the birthdate given for the person who might be JOHN NELSON PIATT: "about 1855," 26 Sep 1850, and 1846. Do you have any census records for him with his wife and children? Census records might help narrow the possibilities. In my husband's line there is incorrect information on a death certificate (a Piatt) and an incorrect date on a tombstone (not a Piatt, imagine that). Where is JOHN NELSON PIATT buried? And where did he live in OH?
