For Robin, You probably have the chronology of the establishment of the four counties: Kanawha, Mason, Putnam, and Jackson. Kanawha est. 1788 from Greenbrier and Montgomery (VA); county seat Charleston Mason est 1804 from Kanawha; county seat Point Pleasant Jackson est 1831 from Kanawha, Mason and Wood; county seat Ripley Putnam est 1848 from Kanawha, Mason and Cabell; county seat Winfield On the one hand I don't like to hear that you think several of your Piatts were in Mason Co WV, but that's because

For Robin: Thanks for the kind words, but don't blame your shoelaces so much as the fact that the old folks used the name John Piatt way too much. PFN Volume 4 gives a family group listing for John Pyatt and Margaret Katherine "Mary" Snyder. There were 12 children and a listing with brief information is: 1. For Robin: Bored with the Ohio winter I went to the Ohio Genealogical Society library last Friday to look over their meager holdings of West Virginia materials. You may have most of this but I'm posting for the archives. I found the marriage of John S Pyatt and Mary Katherine Snyder to be just as posted to the list earlier. Since the marriage took place at the home of Thomas and Elizabeth Snyder of Mason Co WV I wondered if their daughter Lucinda was also married in Mason Co WV. She was, but of course

for Robin: I searched the 1880 census on the given names of several children of John and Mary Snyder Piatt without success. Their daughter Margaret was born in 1879 in Putnam Co WV and and daughter Roxie Ellen was born in 1881 in Jackson Co WV. But nothing obvious jumps out of the 1880 census. Keep looking! Laverne, you have a real gift for this. Thanks so much! I had suspected Elizabeth was a Snider but had not researched it yet. Reedy is geographically close to Cuba so Bennie is probably connected somehow rather closely. Im not familiar with him but havent checked every nook and cranny yet either. I havent a clue who this new Jacob is. Looks like a call to my dad is in order. Sometimes when I call with questions like this he says "Oh yeah I remember him..." In Grant District, Jackson County WV 1880 Thomas and Lydia Piatt in their 60's Thomas Jr and Alice J (thomas son of Thomas) John Milton and Nancy Williams (john Son of Thomas and Lydia) Three households, but Im certain these are the relationships. PA Martha A 31 b OH (listed as a wife, not a daughter) Abraham, Elizabeth, Barbara. Hi Marlene-- Actually I have found 11, possibly 12. Its really confusing given all the Piatts in the county, but the 1880 Census lists 7, the database shows three more born after 1880, plus one (Betsy) with an unknown date of brith and a marriage to a Mr Briggs, and an unknown daughter who married a Richard Campbell. Thanks Laverne! I have found that the PFN, like my website at piattresearchers.net, is only as accurate as the people who submit information. Im not suggesting it isnt a valuable too though--it's INCREDIBLY helpful. But it's not the bible of Piatt research I once thought it was. Im still saving my pennies for the rest of the set though.
