Do I read this right, that Mary Pyatt who married Dr William Allston was the daughter of Elizabeth LaBruce, daughter of Thomas LaBruce?

Laura, Yes, I have a watercolor of a Piatt crest Here's the reference that
came with it (the writing is faded so there might be some misspelling)

Deb contacted me directly, too, and I thought the number of similarities between her Flatt line and our Piatts was remarkable. They were in the same places using the same given names. And when I looked at Deb's website:
http://www.halcyondays.com/flatt/dnaresults.htm
and saw that she considers Van Vliet to be a variation of the Flatt surname I was hopeful that we might find a connection--a stray Piatt taking the VanVliet>>Flatt name. Unfortunately the science says "No."

This may sound silly, but I am going to ask it anyway because it does have
meaning to me.
Does anyone have a Piatt Family Crest or anything that is used to display
family lineage of the Piatt's? Meaning of the Surname?
Thanks for your time.

OK where is it? (:-
A book just came across my desk entitled, Clermont County, Ohio pioneers
1798-1812 : a substitute census for 1800-1810. In it, I found an entry
for John H. Piatt. The original record source where the name of the
pioneer is found is cited as, Common Pleas Courts 1808-1812, compiled by
Patricia Donaldson. The citation indicates that this work was taken
from "Index to Clermont County Common Please Minute Book A-1, 1808-1812"
and was donated to the Clermont County Probate Court Offices in 1980.

The above reference and link are to biographies of some the OH Piatts which have been posted at the biographies project at rootsweb.com
Robin and Marianne might want to consider adding a link to their websites, if they haven't already.

The above link gives early settlers of Stewart Co TN including Ebenezer Piatt and many of his neighbors. Is it a coincidence that Ebenezer was relatively close to the land granted to Peter Pyatt by NC for his Revolutionary War service?

Yes, Laverne, you did read that correctly. There is also the record of
a John PYATT, of Prince Frederick Parish, Craven Co., who married Hannah
LABRUCE of Prince George Parish, who married 28 March 1744 (the license
appears to have been issued 23 Feb 1743/4). I assume that these are two
separate John's, most likely father & son. According to the Marriage
Settlements in the South Carolina Archives, here is the information
about the two marriages
John PYATT, of Waccamaw, SC married Elizabeth LABRUC
Thanks! The DNA certainly settles that issue. As you noted, there are 2
direct line Vliet descendants from Dirck Van Vliet in our study-entirely
discrete results. The Flatts do not match with the Vliets and are also
entirely discrete. We are still looking for some direct line Flatts with
known origin in Piscataway to test against-if the results do not match the
other Flatts, will want to compare against Piatts.

I have child information for James and Tabitha and nothing on his parents.
