I am looking for information about Lewis Peatt or his ancestors. I know that he was born in Westchester Co., NY in 1810 and came to McHenry County, IL in the 1840s. He married Margaret Whiston in 1852 in Racine, WI. I have found the names of several other Peatts in Westchester, but I have no idea if they are related to Lewis Peatt.

Just to announce a good web page to see the different maps for the census.
When you get the page, just standby as it does its thing.
Hope you enjoy.

I'm sorry to take list space for this but I believe my original informational
message to conference attendees that I sent on 28 May 2001 was not received by
everyone attending the conference.
This evening (Tuesday, 5 June 2001) I resent the original message and an
additional informational message. If you are attending and did not get two
messages from me this evening, please let me know privately. Do not respond
to the list.
Also, this is probably the last chance for anyone else to get in on the

I have spoken with the woman whose last name is Piette and convinced her to start
her own research on her line--she has never attempted previously. Her father
lives in Western Ontario and is one of 13 children. She knows there were at least
the last 5 generations of Piette's in Canada and her family legend says that they
immigrated directly from france (no stop in NJ first!) so we will see what we can
find out. She also says she is pretty sure there was another spelling in previous
generations and promis
For Robin,
Oh, by all means, make the acquaintance of the Canadian Piatts by any spelling
who are researching the name. They may have cousins still in FRANCE! Or at
least be able to translate French, an invaluable asset when the research jumps
the pond.

Since the Piatt Researchers' Conference will convene later this month for
research in New Jersey, I thought some of those attending might like to see
some local sites. This site gives a brief history of part of Piscataway
Township in Middlesex Co NJ:
http://www.dunellen.org/borough/history.html
This site explains the origins of some of the place names in Middlesex Co PA:

And this is suppposed to be the url for the state archives in New Jersey:

Last fall I took a trip to Scioto Co. Ohio with my Mom to visit some of the
family cemeteries and do some research. While I was there I found some
Piatt's that I am not sure where they belong on the tree. Can someone help?

Swords/Mershon Cemetery on Pond Creek Rd.

You need to keep in mind also that when you are in a county that has a
Piatt/Pyeatt/Pyatt family....that you need to check for spelling that are
created by bad handwriting such as Ryatt, Dyatt, Platt, Pyall, etc. In my
experience, it is only in more recent generations that I can find someone
whose name is spelled consistently throughout their life (at least the
records which they left behind). I am still not
Could someone please give me some additional information regarding the
conference? Is there a planned schedule? Do we spend time doing
collective research-- or do we just share what information we already have?
Would I need to make a deposit for lodging at the college? If so, to whom
would I pay?
Also, has a time and place been decided upon for next year's conference?
It's getting to be "fish or cut bait" time for me to make a decision about
whether to attend.
Thanks for the information?

I have had the following query in here before without success, so I thought
that I would try again. I would like to find:
1. Town/city in which Benjamin Franklin Piatt was born in Iowa. Birth date:
March 17, 1872. Parents: Allen Piatt and Elizabeth A. Rogers.
2. Benjamin's wife was Nettie M. Outhier. I would also like to find out in
which city/town in Iowa Nettie was born. Born: April 6, 1879. Parents:
Amile Outhier and Marion Morrison.
3. Allen Piatt and Elizabeth Rogers were married Nov. 27
I believe you will find that the William Piatt had a first wife Jemina
(Jacomyntje) Quick, daughter of Col.. Abraham and Matilda (Veghe) Quick Sr.
Jemina and Jacomyntje was one person.
William's second wife was Sarah (Shotwell) Smith, widow of Ralph Smith, and
daughter of John and Grace (Webster) Shotwell.
Hi Piatt List
Last year, I sent some old Family photos of my great grandfather Harry
B. Piatt (son of Michael H Piatt and Eliza D. Kirk) and his wife Rose
Barth Piatt to my half brother in California. He in turn sent me some
notes that his daughter, my grandmother Beatrice "Trix" Piatt Koch had
sent to her son (my father) in January 30, 1975, two years before he
passed away. It is interesting and may provide some clarity for some of
the lineage comments at PFN 5:28. Trix's handwriting was darn near

Hi Jim!
According to the 1870 Census Index for Iowa ot Ancestry.com, there is a
listing for the following:
Piatt, Allen 1870 Dallas County IA on page 540 in Colfax Township
If Allen Piatt, was your Benjamin's father, this might be where you would
need to look to find birth info. It at least bears looking at. :)

Hi Elise,
This family is not in the Daniel Piatt line of NJ and KY.
I too corresponded with Robert Alexander Piatt starting back in 1985.
The best I could learn was that John, born 1782-83, married Hanah.
They had a son John married to IBBA BROOKS. John and Ibba were the parents
of John C. Piatt, born 1861. John C. Piatt died May 27, 1930. Hope this
helps.

Can anyone verify John H's (b. 1831) and Elizabeth's (b.1832) children and
their birthdates. One of the census records that I recently found makes me
wonder if I have the dates recorded correctly.
Thanks,
Amanda
Hi Jim,
According to the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index online:
PIATT, ALLEN married ROGERS, ELIZABETH A. in HENRY Co., IL on 11/27/1862
- Vol/Page 00A/0104 License No. 01862197
You can find the index and how to get copies of the marriage records at

If I find any of the other info you asked about I will let you know.

Just read Don Koch's note, and although these Piatts dont seem to be
anywhere near my line my eye caught the part about severe scoliosis. Am
wondering if anyone else suffers that...Mine was severe enough at age 10 to

so I was curious as to any other 'cousins' who might also have it.
