Interesting about your listing of the spouses of Captain William Pyatt. I
show that his first wife was Jemima Quick, b. 1757, daughter of Col. Abraham
Quick and Machtel Veghte. Show three other children born to this couple,
Tunis, Reynier and Henry. The info I have is that Col. Quick and second wife
Charity had seven children. Unfortunately, I did not make note of my source
for this information. However, I have never seen a listing for a Jacomynje
Quick.

I was wondering if ayone else has found where the name Piatt had switched
to Pyatt? My g-g-grandfather was Benjiman Pyatt but in 1864 his son Charles
signed his mothers pension request as Charles Pyatt and everything I have
found after this is spelled Pyatt including his mothers obit. Is this common
and which way do I search Pi or Py. Thanks for any help D
I understand that Rene Piatt and Elizabeth Sheffield had eight children. The
only one that I am aware of is Jacob, whom I descended from. Could you
please give me information on the other 7 children??? I would sincerely
appreciate this!

Dear Piatt clan,
I have just dicovered why we may have a confusion with this "John of France", if you wander over to familysearch.com
you will find they have listed as such:
John Piatt born 07/05/1739 Netherlands
to John Piatt and Frances Van Vliet
John Piatt born abt. 1710 In Dauphine Prov., France
to Pierre Piatt and Elise DuFore
they also list
William Piatt being born 1743 in Santo Domingo
to John Piatt and Frances VanVliet
Would anyone like to clarify this mess ?
Thanks, Anne
I understand that Dinah PYATT was Jonathan MARTIN's third wife, do you know
if Elizabeth DUNHAM was his 1st or 2nd, and do you have the name of his

Piatt Family Newsletter, Volulme 1, 1986, gives 9 possible children for Rene,
not all named:

One of the unknown children of Rene Pyatt was ANN married to JOSEPH DRAKE.
She was thought to be a twin sister to brother JAMES.
Elizabeth DUNHAM wife of Jacob PIATT is thought to be the daughter of DAVIS
and REBECCA DUNHAM.
There is much research to be done yet on the Martin-Dunham-Drake-Dunn
families where Piatt-Pyatt ties into the families.

Oh, boy, you opened a barrel of Elizabeths!
I once did a printout from the IGI of Elizabeth DUNHAMs and it took
SEVERAL pages. This was in an attempt to help determine the parentage of the
Elizabeth DUNHAM who married Jacob MARTIN, my 5th great grandparents. Hasn't
helped, YET!!
Here are just a few that we have -- from our MARTIN history, compiled by
Louise MARTIN MOHLER:
"Elizabeth DUNHAM, Jacob's wife (yes, s/o Jonathan MARTIN), has been given

There is good documentation that William Piatt's last wife was Sarah Shotwell,
m. 14 Sept 1778. My quandary is - was he previously married to both a Jemina

as to birth, marriage & death dates, even parentage. I believe Jemina's
parents were Abraham Quick & Matilda Wyckoff and Jacomyntje's pare
For Anne,
I can't explain why some of the early lines got confused but it seems that
this is what has happened to these Piatt listings. I have seen a tangling
such as this in my own lines unrelated to Piatts. In my own lines, my
great-grandfather moved the whole family from KY to WV around 1900. Then my
grandfather returned his family only to KY. Subsequently, a descendant in the
WV line wanted to compile a genealogy and relied on faulty and foggy memories
of the WV people concerning the KY line. And

Hi, All,
<< Dinah PYATT was Jonathan MARTIN's third wife,... >>
Again, I'm quoting from Louise MARTIN MOHLER's book - prob more than you EVER
wanted to know about MARTINs... but some ARE PIATT/ PYATT descendants,
anyway. ;)
"Jonathan MARTIN had three wives and 15 known children. He married his
first wife about the time the new church was formed (in Middlesex Co NJ) and
it was recorded as 1706. That wife was ELIZABETH DUNHAM, d/o the new pastor,
Rev. Edmund and his wife Mary (BONHAM) DUNHAM. Eliz
Laverne,
I'm not sure who this John H. Piatt is. I have three John H. Piatt's in my
family file but none of them match this death date. I would still think it
is very likely that he does come from the Scioto/Adams Co. Ohio Piatt's
because of the name. The record indicates VA. Is this where he is buried?
What website did you get this information from?

I have not been a subscriber to the Piatt Digest for long, so may be
confused. Originally I received the information from the Digest that Reyneir
(Rene) Pyatt was born in (about) 1650 in Dauphine Province, France. "Family
Search" says that he was born 1) in about 1650 in Piscataway, Middlesex,
Mass. or 2) in/about 1651 in Middlesex, N.J. Any clarification??? Also -
did he die in Middlesex Co., N.Y. or N.J.???? Any information on his wife:
Elizabeth Sheffield??
Thanks,

I believe that "Piatt Digest" would refer to one form of e-mails from the
PIATT-L list at Rootsweb.com. I am on the LIST form of the list so I get
e-mails from the list as they come in to the list. However, a subscriber can
subscribe in "digest" mode which means that e-mails are saved until there are
a number of them and then that collection of e-mails is sent out as a
"digest." Christine can correct me if I'm wrong.
For those who are coming to conference I hope to have an e-mail ready for
Laverne Ingram Piatt,
I was reading some old a-mails and came across one thanking you for information you had supplied from the Piatt Digest, #24. The Piatt Family Newsletter only has 12 Volumes, and Piatt Family Photogravure is at Volume 4, so is there an other book or publication called Piatt Digest? Is it still published? Do you know where it may obtained?
Thank You
Until the conference

For Joann,
JACOB PIATT (s/o of Rene Piatt and Elizabeth Sheffield) married MARY HULL.
They had at least 9 children with the eldest being DINAH PIATT, b Feb 1703/04,
Piscataway NJ; dd 1789; m c1722, Piscataway NJ, to JONATHAN MARTIN as his
third wife. It would seem that their son JACOB MARTIN would be the one you
have marrying ELIZABETH DUNHAM. And I have no doubt that there was more than
one Elizabeth Dunham as Dunhams were numerous in New Jersey.
