I have in my database an Alfred born in 1885 and married to a Goldie. I have no further on this family except that he registered for the draft in 1918 in California...
I have several Alfreds without parents or dates. Many with fathers named something other than Alfred, but also many without any parents listed at

Alfred died in Nov 1900, he was hit by a train in New Jersey, and had previously lived in Philedelphia. He was a buisiness partner with Edward J Beck who was at first suspected of killing Alfred. There is no age or date of birth listed. He did have two young children at the time of his death, Alfred, aged five years,

Dick,
Yes, I do have this report. I was trying to see if I could link him to my Piatt Tree. This report was all I had to go on and I am still unsure of any connection. My direct Piatt's are from Monroe County Ohio.
Thanks,
Marlene

Yes, Welty is Rowena's son. I believe he drowned in one of the large floods. I'll have to check. I think I have the news article some where. Glad to know you were able to get to the cemeteries. I took pics of many of the same stones this summer. There are other cemetaries that may have some of your/our fam

I'm looking for info on Eliza Piatt and her husband William Pain. Marion Co. Ohio. Eliza's parents were Stephan Piatt and Mary McConnell.
Thank you
For Marlene.
This is a confusing issue on your Alfred Piatt. In the investigation of the
death, it was unknown whether it was an Alfred Piatt or a James Piatt.
First, they thought he was merely hit by the train. But, they got the report
from the coroner that he had a fractured skull which maybe came from Beck. It
sounds like you have this report to know this matter.
Regardless, he is Alfred Piatt (Pyott), the son of Louis and wife Isabella
(Ewing) Pyott of the Upper Darby, Delaware Co., PA.
Marlene,
If you don't mind me saying, I do not believe this Alfred was in your
family. This Alfred descended from the PYOTT family of Delaware Co., PA.
However, if you care to send me additional data on your line, I will try to
help you. I have been researching since 1962 on all PIATT spellings
throughout the U.S.
Thank you.
Dick Piatt, PA.
For Robin,
Those applications and certificates sound like something that would be in the military records at the National Archives. I haven't ordered anything from NARA in a very long time and by now I had assumed that ordering can be done online with a credit card. Indeed it can be. Instructions and order forms are many layers down at the website:
http://www.archives.gov
but it is possible to order online and pay astronomical fees (from $14.75 to $37.00) by credit card for pension/military files bef
Awaiting any further details about Civil War John Piatt's. My husband's ancestor, John Nelson Piatt, son of William & Mary Keen Piatt, is buried at Rock Hill Cemetary, Belmont Co., Ohio and has a GAR marker on his grave. I can find no record of his having served in the Civil War - hisDOB Sep 1850; d. Apr 1930. Because of his youth at time of conflict (although some did serve at a young age) I am wondering if placement of the marker was a mistake. Is there a trail to find out who placed the marker and th
Ok Folks, Im pretty sure the John Piatt mentioned in my previous mail was
NOT the Nicholas County John. The Civil War John enlisted from Graysville,
OH which is in Monroe County. The John who married Mary Truax was from
Monroe Co and the enlistment date was prior to their marriage date (they
also married in Monroe Co OH)
So Im back to square one on a death date for my John...

Hi Listers--
Have recently located information on a Civil War Pension file for John Piatt
married to Mary Piatt. John served in the WV Infantry and I have the
following information
Invalid application # 525.035 filed Oct 23, 1884
Invalid Certificate # 598.036
Pension application # 649519 filed March 1897
Pension certificate #453099 filed in WV
Does anyone know how to access the files and what information they have on
them?
Thanks,
Robin
Sparked by recent post re: Eliza Piatt Paine, I took a look at Stephen
Piatt. Another researcher states Stephen's Brother Amos lived in Muskingum
Co, OH circa 1810 and that both moved to Ohio from Loudoun Co, VA via
Hampshire Co (W)Va.
The 1810 Census of VA shows the following Piatts (sic)
Benjamin-Augusta Co
Elizabeth-Hampshire Co
William-Hampshire Co
Timothy-Loudoun Co
John-Loudoun Co
I think it's logical to assume relationships between all of these Piatts and
Stephen and Amos.
Thoughts?
