1. [PONTIUS] Happy New Year [1]
Happy New Year, Pontius kin! The list has been quiet for a while, probably because we have all been busy with holiday festivities. Hopefully everyone will renew efforts to research Pontius and Punches family lines and will welcome and help the newcomers in the family who are just getting into genealogy. I have been working on the www.PontiusGenealogy.com website and adding new information over the past week. If you haven't visited lately, take a moment to look around. Also, if you have any photos or do
2. Re: [PONTIUS] Huff/Pearl/Pontius Marriage in Seneca Co., NY? [1]
Merritt, I don't know if this will be of any help or not. But when I was a child my parents insisted that we called adults Mr.____ or Mrs._____ or Miss__________ . We moved around a lot and when we moved up north we found out that it wasn't the custom there. So we were told we could call them Aunt________, Uncle______, Grandma ________, etc. If I didn't know better I might have referred to some of these people with the family type of names. I hope this isn't the way it is in your case

Peggy, Thanks for that info. The thought had crossed my mind that perhaps they were close members of the family, but never considered it could be just intended as a sign of respect. I appreciate your input! 4. [PONTIUS] Johannes' descendants dna results [1]
Hello, Now that we have the DNA results for two descendants of Johannes, it appears that there is a one marker difference between them. I would be interested to hear what the significance is for that when they are otherwise identical. Does anyone know? Thanks. Susan Sauve
5. Re: [PONTIUS] Johannes' descendants dna results [1]
Thanks for your reply, Jim. It is very interesting stuff, this DNA study, I hope that more of our male Pontius's will participate. It is almost too good to be true that we have this wonderful tool. 6. [PONTIUS] Huff/Pearl/Pontius Marriage in Seneca Co., NY? [1]
Hello all, Im wondering if anyone has info on a link between the Pontius, Pearl & Huff families in upstate NY ca 1850-1900? I'm trying to link my Pearl/Pontius family (of Fayette, Seneca County, NY) to the Huff family. I have found my great-great grandmother's diary from 1874, the year before Elnora Pearl married Oscar Pontius. In it, Elnora Pearl wrote frequently about visits from "uncle Arthur & Aunt Libbie" Huff & "Uncle Isaac & Aunt Sara" Huff and other Huffs, referring to them as family

To what Jim wrote, I would add this: We simply need more participants from the Johannes side. Had Jeffrey's DNA been a match for John J.'s, there would be a tendency to think that Johannes and Nicholas were not brothers. However, Jeffrey's matched the DNA of the Nicholas descendants, as far as it went (only 12 markers to compare). This leaves the question open: Whose DNA represents Johannes? By extending the marker testing we will make sure that Jeffrey's DNA matches the Nicholas DNA exactly. In addi

The significance will become apparent when we have the second Johannes member's dna tested out to 37 markers. The marker which is a mismatch between the two Johannes members right now is one which doesn't seem to mutate (change) in as short a time as 250 years. The first Johannes member, John J., showed two markers (mutation more than 250 years) in 37 which are different from the Nicholas members and one marker which is expected to change in the time period of about 250 years. It is the three mismatc
